Rangers star ‘looked like a new player’ vs Dundee United, Kevin Muscat will love him

Rangers managed to rescue a 2-2 draw against Dundee United on Saturday.

Thelo Aasgaard put the hosts in front early on, with an excellent goal.

However, Dundee United eventually turned the game on its head in the second half, despite Rangers dominating in the first period.

However, James Taveriner would once again step up to rescue a point for the Gers.

Steven Smith was in the dugout for Rangers, with Kevin Muscat favourite to take the permanent role in the coming weeks. And if all goes through, the former Australian international will have plenty of positives to take from the match.

Ian McCall: Thelo Aasgaard looks like a new player

While many Rangers players were poor against Dundee United, one of the standouts was Aasgaard.

Playing as the attacking midfielder, the former Luton Town man ran the show, finally showing why the Gers brought him in the summer.

Aasgaard’s opener for Rangers was hailed as “unbelievable”, as he slammed the ball into the net.

Now, reflecting on his display, Ian McCall was quick to praise the Gers star for his performance on BBC Sportsound on 18 October.

He said: “Aasgaard looks like a new player, and he has got more room to play in because he has got more width.”

Therefore, with Muscat looking likely to become the next Rangers manager, he will be in love with what he has seen the attacking midfielder do.

If these performances can be replicated, Aasgaard will be vital in the Gers’ march back up the Premiership table.

Hopefully, if Muscat does arrive, he will be able to get the best out of the former Premier League star.

How good was Aasgaard against Dundee United?

According to Sofascore on 18 October, Aasgaard was excellent.

On top of his goal, the attacking midfielder was dominant up top, creating multiple chances for his teammates.

Realistically, Aasgaard’s performance should have been rewarded with a comfortable victory, something that Muscat must find a solution for.

However, despite the clear negatives of the result, the former Luton Town star can hold his head high.
