‘Rangers prospect biggest embarrassment of Brendan Rodgers career’ – Hugh Keevins

Celtic arguably haven’t taken full advantage of the turmoil at Rangers, with the manager search dragging on after Russell Martin was sacked.

The former Southampton boss is one of the worst head coaches in the Gers’ history, lasting just 123 days in the dugout after an abysmal start to the season.

Kevin Muscat seems like the likely candidate to replace Martin, but the Shanghai Port manager is looking to arrive at the Light Blues after the Chinese Super League ends on 22 November.

Steven Smith has taken interim charge at Ibrox for now, and the hopes of getting back into the race for the William Hill Premiership title haven’t faded in G51 due to what’s happened at Parkhead.

Brendan Rodgers can’t let Rangers finish above Celtic

Brendan Rodgers would be left with shame if the Gers finish above Celtic in the league table, Hugh Keevins says.

The veteran sports broadcaster feels the former Liverpool manager has to take advantage of the current crisis at Ibrox, with the Light Blues nine points behind their Old Firm rivals.

Under Martin, the Glaswegian outfit got off to their worst start in the league campaign since 1978 as they failed to win any of their first five games, giving the Hoops a chance to take an early lead.

Keevins wrote in the Daily Record on 18 October: “If Celtic fail to finish above Rangers this season, it will be the biggest embarrassment of Brendan Rodgers’ career.”

Derek McInnes was being tipped for the Ibrox vacancy, with his Hearts side currently at the top of the William Hill Premiership.

With the Old Firm rivals going through a rough patch, the Jambos have a chance to break the duopoly in Scottish football this season.

Celtic leave door open for Ibrox revival

It’s unusual to see both Celtic and Rangers struggling simultaneously, but there’s a silver lining in it at Ibrox.

While the Hoops hold a significant advantage over the Gers, it wouldn’t be surprising to see a turnaround in G51 after the managerial change.

Rodgers’ record at Celtic this season

Celtic’s miseries are likely to continue after failing to reinforce their squad adequately in the summer, and the Parkhead faithful may not be able to see much change before January.

The Light Blues have a crunch few months coming up where they could potentially claw their way back up the league table, and that prospect isn’t inconceivable.
