Kris Boyd tears into Rangers chiefs as new manager hunts goes on, duo should be ’embarrassed’

Rangers’ new manager search has been far from smooth sailing.

Andrew Cavenagh and Paraag Marathe have been criticised for many things, but their handling of Rangers’ manager situation this season has been scrutinised the most.

Russell Martin was sacked at the start of October, as the Gers have yet to announce a new manager after Steven Gerrard’s Rangers return collapsed.

Kevin Muscat is poised for the Rangers job, but with the deal still not confirmed, there’s every chance Cavenagh and Marathe could mess it up again.

Ex-Gers player Kris Boyd has now slammed the handling of the situation, with two other names also coming in for criticism.

Kris Boyd believes Kevin Muscat was ‘the last man standing’ for Rangers

Cavenagh and Marathe wanted Rangers fans to know that their managerial search was to be a long and calculated process.

However, after Gerrard’s return didn’t materialise, it seemed like everybody else was second choice, with Danny Rohl also turning Rangers down.

In Boyd’s column for The Sun on 17 October, he also questioned the statement from the owners as they publicly questioned Patrick Stewart and Kevin Thelwell’s part in Martin’s appointment.

“I would love to know what [Stewart and Thelwell] thought of the club statement following the sacking of Martin after the 1-1 draw with Falkirk, because if they weren’t embarrassed by it, then they should have been,” he said.

“This is two highly paid executives at the club who are supposed to be responsible for the ins and outs of the football department.

“And yet chairman Andrew Cavenagh and vice chairman Paraag Marathe made it crystal clear they were going to be hands-on when it came to the appointment of the next manager.

“This is an appointment based on indecision and hesitancy. This is an appointment that stinks to the high heavens of mismanagement at the very highest level.

“Muscat almost became the last man standing in all the talks.”

Andrew Cavenagh and Paraag Marathe may have a blessing in Muscat

Yes, Muscat may not have been Cavenagh and Marathe’s first choice, however things are looking good ahead of the Australians appointment.

Muscat has been hailed for his management skills and tactics, which will supposedly suit Rangers.

Regardless, the Rangers hierarchy have once again shown their inability to handle major situations effectively, and they’re fortunate Kevin Muscat is still willing to come to Ibrox.
