‘More adaptable than Ange Postecoglou’ – Everything positive said about Kevin Muscat leading to Rangers hire

Rangers fans won’t have to wait much longer until they have a confirmed head coach.

Andrew Cavenagh and the 49ers have moved on quickly after Steven Gerrard’s Rangers return collapsed, as they look set to unveil a new man at Ibrox very shortly.

Kevin Muscat appears to be the next Rangers head coach, as all that’s needed now is the paperwork to be finalised.

Ahead of Muscat‘s move, Ibrox News rounds up what has been said by others about the Australian in the build-up to his switch to Glasgow.

Kevin Muscat widely praised ahead of Rangers gig

Muscat’s name has been repeatedly linked with the Rangers job in recent years, and there has been plenty of praise now that he finally seems set to land the job.

Most recently, his former Australian teammate, Mark Bosnich, claimed Rangers are making a smart move while speaking to Sky Sports Scotland.

“I think he’s much more adaptable than Ange [Postecoglou] is, and he’s basically willing to forsake a lot of his principles to make sure he gets a result.

“With his playing connection there and wanting to prove himself, I think this will be a good opportunity for him, and I think it would be a good choice for the club.”

Muscat’s record with current side Shanghai Port:

Of course, a former teammate is going to say nice things about a friend, but ex-Rangers manager Alex McLeish believes in Muscat as a manager.

“[Muscat] was a good character about the dressing room. He let his voice be known and that’s possibly where you could see him moving into management and coaching in future.

Even Simon Jordan, despite his past clashes with Muscat, has acknowledged his potential to successfully manage Rangers.

Jordan compared Muscat’s credentials to Postecoglou’s and said: “If you actually distil it down, there’s a case for Kevin.”

Speaking at Friday’s pre-match press conference, meanwhile, stand-in Gers boss Steven Smith said Muscat is the type of character needed at Ibrox and described him as “pleasant”.

Muscat’s loyalty should reassure Rangers

It’s been reported that Muscat will take over as Rangers manager as soon as he sees out his last four league games in charge of his current side in China.

Muscat’s show of loyalty should be admired, as despite joining a club with Rangers’ stature, he wants to see out one final mission with his current side.
