Jamie O’Hara blasts Kevin Muscat after what he’s heard about Rangers appointment – ‘Shambles’

Kevin Muscat looks set to be named as the next Rangers boss, with negotiations in their final stages.

Rangers are close to announcing the appointment of Muscat, with an announcement mooted to possibly come before the Gers’ meeting with Kilmarnock on Sunday.

The Australian is a former player at Ibrox, having spent a season in Scotland between 2002 and 2003.

Muscat is likely to employ a 4-2-3-1 system at Rangers, with the 52-year-old enjoying great success with the formation throughout his career.

Rangers will have to wait until the end of the Chinese Super League season for Muscat, with the manager looking to see out his final league title with Shanghai Port.

Jamie O’Hara in shock at Rangers developments

Muscat does have one red flag that Rangers should be aware of. The manager failed in his only previous role in Europe, with Belgian side Sint-Truiden V.V.

In the Belgian top flight, the Australian’s side won just two of their 14 games, with the manager being dismissed swiftly after arriving.

It should be considered that Muscat‘s time in Belgium came five years ago, and the former Rangers man has been hugely successful since.

But the stint remains a black mark on Muscat’s record, and Jamie O’Hara has suggested that there is another in the former defender’s decision to finish the season in China.

What’s going on mate,” O’Hara exclaimed live on talkSPORT on Friday. “Honestly, Rangers are all over the place! They’re meant to be a massive football club, they’re a shambles!

“I mean, what is that about? Come on, he wants to finish the season? Like, it’s a massive job you’re getting offered here, Rangers are a big club.

“It just feels like – do the fans want a manager who’s like ‘oh hang on, now wait a minute, I’m not going to come just yet.'”

Rangers need to wait for the right manager

Rangers have suffered significantly from the decision to hire Russell Martin in the summer.

The Gers find themselves 11 points off the top of the Scottish Premiership, and the 49ers face huge pressure for their role in the appointment.

Several jobs now depend on the success of the next decision, and should Rangers have to wait to ensure that decision is indeed the right one, then they will do exactly that.
