Steven Smith axes Nasser Djiga as three changes made – Rangers predicted XI vs Dundee United
Rangers return to action in the Scottish Premiership with a home clash against Dundee United on Saturday.
Russell Matin was sacked following Rangers’ 1-1 draw with Falkirk before the international break.
As a result, Steven Smith will take charge of Rangers for the Dundee United match as the Bears look to rise up the table.
Whilst Kevin Muscat is the favourite to become the new Rangers manager, Smith will be the one picking the lineup on Saturday.

Nasser Djiga will drop to the bench for Dundee United clash
In the match against Farkirk, the main concern was Nasser Djiga starting alongside John Souttar at centre-back.
Whilst Derek Cornelius was excellent against Falkirk at left-back, he will likely be moved back into the heart of the defence as Jayden Meghoma returns.
As a result, Djiga is expected to drop out of the team after playing a string of dreadful performances since his move to Rangers in the summer.
Mohamed Diomande could also come in for Joe Rothwell, having been a huge part of Martin’s team at the start of this season.
The final change could be Oliver Antman’s inclusion in the starting lineup, despite Mikey Moore starting the majority of games.
The 18-year-old has been woeful this season, yet continued to get a look in under Martin.

Connor Barron has been one of the shining lights at Rangers this season, and Smith will count on him to play a huge part in midfield.
Connor Barron set to continue good run of form
Martin was booed for substituting Barron in the 2-0 defeat to Hearts at Ibrox on 13 September.
That is a testament to how Gers fans view Barron’s influence on the team as the 23-year-old is proving himself to be an important player in Govan.
Having joined Rangers from Aberdeen in 2024, Barron made 46 appearances in all competitions for the Light Blues last campaign and excelled in the holding midfield role.
Stat | Connor Barron |
Appearances | 28 |
Pass accuracy (per cent) | 89.7% |
Tackles won (per cent) | 65.6% |
Recoveries | 105 |
Barron will almost definitely be named in Smith’s starting lineup on Saturday as the Bears look to secure their first home win in the Scottish Premiership this season.
If Barron can continue his performances, then there is a good chance he could be called up to the Scotland squad for the 2026 World Cup should they qualify.
