Rangers schedule new press conference at Auchenhowie

Rangers are still on the hunt for a new manager as the international break comes to a close.

Kevin Muscat is in advanced talks with Rangers to become the new manager after their terrible start to the season.

Rangers sit eighth in the Scottish Premiership ahead of their match versus Dundee United at Ibrox on Saturday.

As talks with Muscat progress, a press conference has now been scheduled at Auchenhowie at 9am on Friday.

Steven Smith will speak to the media ahead of Rangers vs Dundee United

Steven Smith will take interim charge of Rangers versus Dundee United, as the Light Blues look to kickstart their season following Martin’s departure.

Rangers Review have reported that Smith will address the media at Auchenhowie at 9am BST on Friday, before a player then speaks at 9:15am.

The former Gers left-back will inevitably be questioned on what he has heard about the Muscat appointment, whilst addressing everything related to Saturday’s must-win tie.

Martin’s league form was abysmal as his style of play was quickly found out by teams who were happy to sit back and hit the Bears on the counter-attack.

With the title firmly out of reach at the moment, the inexperienced Smith will have to lead his team to a victory to avoid further fan mutiny in Govan.

Rangers supporters have been furious throughout Martin’s reign, and a loss to Dundee will heap even further pressure on Andrew Cavenagh to secure Muscat’s services as quickly as possible.

James Tavernier is Rangers’ top scorer in the league with three goals, and he’ll need to showcase his leadership qualities ahead of Saturday’s tricky test.

Rangers’ leaders must show character vs Dundee United

Following the awful performances under Martin, Rangers’ players have been questioned over their mentality.

Tavernier, John Souttar, and Jack Butland must showcase something they haven’t done at all this season, which is to lead the team by example.

Whilst Butland has been one of the Bears’ best players, the lack of defensive cohesion is something that must be instantly addressed.

A busy schedule lies ahead for Rangers, and Smith must be able to depend on his senior players against Dundee United.
