Rangers risk being left further Celtic with £6m January signing lined up while Ibrox crisis unfolds

Rangers’ hopes of overtaking Celtic once again seem distant.

Despite the Old Firm derby ending in a 0-0 draw in August, the Gers have only continued to go backwards, while Celtic remain on course to win another Scottish Premiership title.

As a result, Russell Martin was rightly sacked from Rangers in October, with the current campaign seemingly being written off already.

Yet, chaos still continues at Ibrox, with Rangers unable to decide on who they want as Martin’s successor, as Celtic continue to dominate.

Bobby Clark set to join Celtic for £6m

As Rangers remain in chaos, Celtic are looking to the future, and are already preparing for the January transfer window.

According to The Times on 16 October, Brendan Rodgers’ side are set to sign Bobby Clark from Red Bull Salzburg for £6million.

The 20-year-old is highly rated and has had a successful loan spell at Derby County so far this season.

This just provides more evidence of how badly run Rangers have been so far this season.

While the Gers are unable to decide who Martin’s successor should be, despite the writing being on the wall for weeks, Celtic already have plans in place for the January window.

As it stands, Rangers are in massive danger of being left behind Celtic for years to come, with Rodgers clearly having a long-term strategy in place.

Therefore, unless drastic action is taken, the Gers will have no chance of winning the Premiership any time soon.

Steven Smith set to take charge of Dundee United game

Given the disarray at Ibrox at the moment, it is easy to forget they actually have a game on Saturday.

With Dundee United set to come to Glasgow, it is a good chance for many of the players to showcase their ability to any potential incoming manager.

However, while the hierarchy continues to search for a permanent man in the dugout, it appears that Steven Smith will be in charge at Ibrox for the time being.

The Light Blues’ Under-19 head coach would therefore make his senior managerial debut on Saturday if this plan goes ahead.
