Hugh Keevins responds to bizarre Ange Postecoglou and Rangers suggestion – ‘World War 3’

Rangers appointing Nottingham Forest boss Ange Postecoglou would be like mixing oil and water.

The Australian manager spent two successful years at Celtic before leaving for Tottenham, where he was sacked despite winning the Europa League title last season.

With the likes of Steven Gerrard and Danny Rohl turning down the chance to manage at Ibrox, the search for a new head coach in G51 has taken longer than expected.

Andrew Cavenagh now has his heart set on Kevin Muscat, and while recent days have shown that the situation at the Glaswegian outfit can change at any moment, the prospect of Postecoglou returning to the other side of Glasgow will certainly raise eyebrows.

Rangers fan wants Ange Postecoglou as next manager

Hugh Keevins was baffled when one fan suggested the Gers should hire Postecoglou to replace Russell Martin.

The Scottish broadcaster couldn’t believe the bizarre statement from the Light Blues’ supporter, terming the idea of the Forest boss in the Ibrox dugout inconceivable.

When Postecoglou and the Glaswegian outfit’s former boss, Giovanni van Bronckhorst, were pictured together having coffee, it felt like World War 3 had kicked off, highlighting the Old Firm rivalry.

Speaking on Clyde 1 Superscoreboard on 15 October, Keevins said: “Postecoglou once had his photo taken beside Van Bronckhorst in a West End restaurant where they were enjoying a cup of coffee, and you would’ve thought it had kicked off World War 3 for bearing to be sitting beside each other.”

“So Postecoglou knows Glasgow, and there are no conceivable circumstances in this world that he has anything to do with Rangers.”

Muscat’s style of play is considered similar to Postecoglou’s, so the Gers’ supporter who wants the ex-Celtic boss in G51 may be getting what they asked for.

Russell Martin a hated figure at Ibrox, but Ange Postecoglou a bigger villain

Martin faced hateful vitriol at Ibrox during his final days as manager, and the former Scottish defender established himself as one of the most hated figures at the Light Blues in recent history.

However, Rangers fans have no love lost for Postecoglou, and the Forest boss would arguably be alienating the Celtic supporters as well if he opts to manage their Old Firm rivals.

There’s surely no chance Postecoglou will be under consideration at Ibrox due to his links with the Hoops.

With Muscat looking like the likely next head coach at the Glaswegian outfit, it remains to be seen what the future holds for them.
