Ferguson shares date that could instantly change everything at Rangers as new appointment nears
Rangers fans are desperately crying out for some positive news in what has been a dark period for the club.
Rangers’ 1-1 draw with Falkirk before the international break means they have made their joint-worst ever start to a Scottish Premiership season after seven matches.
Supporters await confirmation of who will replace Russell Martin in the Ibrox dugout, with Kevin Muscat now the favourite to take charge of Rangers.
All the while, Rangers prepare for Saturday’s clash with Dundee United, with that game simply must-win if the Gers are to keep their slim title prospects alive.

Rangers still have plenty to play for this season
Rangers are working on final details to appoint Muscat, and that appointment cannot come a moment too soon.
The Bears have a massive run of fixtures ahead, starting with that visit of Dundee United and swiftly followed by a Europa League trip to Brann.
Rangers trail Scottish Premiership leaders Hearts by 11 points, but they are through to the semi-finals of the Viaplay Cup and also have the Scottish Cup to play for.
And in the view of Derek Ferguson, this season is far from a write-off, with that upcoming semi-final against Celtic already circled in the calendar.
Speaking exclusively to Ibrox News, Ferguson said: “You can’t concede the title is over yet, even if it will be extremely difficult to catch the others.
“There are two cups available and we can still climb the league. We can start to push Hearts and Celtic. There’s a busy period ahead, including Celtic in the semi-finals.
“The sooner the manager is in, the sooner the defence is fixed, the sooner we can feel the turnaround. If the new manager wins that Celtic game on 2 November, it instantly changes everything.

“The fans will instantly be back onside. Leading up to that game you want to keep pushing in the league, but that Celtic game in the cup is truly massive.
“Denying them a treble and progressing to a final is huge. Whether it’s Derek McInnes, Kevin Muscat or anyone else, they need to get through the door as quick as.”
Rangers urged to announce new appointment before this weekend
Andrew Cavenagh and Paraag Marathe appeared to have put all their eggs in one basket with Steven Gerrard, meaning the search for a new boss has gone on much longer than expected.
Muscat does look as though he will sign on the dotted line, though there are suggestions he will not take charge until mid-November – some time after that Celtic match.
Rangers’ upcoming fixtures:
- 18 October: Dundee United (h)
- 23 October: Brann (a)
- 26 October: Kilmarnock (h)
- 29 October: Hibernian (a)
- 2 November: Celtic (n)
Ferguson insists it’s imperative an appointment is made ahead of the Dundee United clash to simply lift the spirits of disheartened supporters.
“What we need immediately is some good news to get fans onside,” he said. “Honestly, I have never, in 30 years associated with this club, experienced anything like it in terms of the disconnect.
“Fans feel alienated and don’t even feel it’s a club anymore – that’s how bad it’s getting. We need someone through the door and some good news.
“We don’t want that after this weekend – we need it before the Dundee United game.”
