Andrew Cavenagh stance on Kevin Muscat revealed as Rangers work around complications

Kevin Muscat looks like the heavy favourite to become the next Rangers manager after Danny Rohl withdrew from the process.

Andrew Cavenagh and Paraag Marathe led the process of appointing a new manager for the Gers after their abysmal start under Russell Martin.

Rohl shouldn’t have been expected to wait long for the Ibrox job, with the Light Blues taking their time in getting the right person to replace the former Southampton boss.

Muscat could be accompanied by Neil McCann, and Cavenagh’s stance on the situation has emerged as the Glaswegian outfit tackle obstacles.

Rangers have time zone issues as Andrew Cavenagh admires Kevin Muscat

Cavenagh has been a big fan of Muscat as the Gers finalise personal terms with him, according to Chris Jack.

The Scottish journalist revealed on 16 October that the Light Blues are working around time zone complications to appoint the Shanghai Port manager at Ibrox.

It’s been claimed that the Glaswegian outfit are determined to see the 52-year-old head coach arrive, with work being done on a seven-figure compensation package.

Muscat still has a year left on his contract in China, and there are four games left in the CSL as his team sit at the top of the league table.

Cavenagh and Marathe seemed keen on Steven Gerrard, but the former Australian international is undoubtedly the next best option for the Gers.

The Shanghai Port boss’ fiery personality and aggressive style of play certainly made him a fan favourite during his playing career, and that reputation may come in handy in G51 right now amid fan unrest.

Kevin Muscat potential style of play at Ibrox

Muscat’s appointment at Ibrox could cost £1.5million in compensation, but the American owners have shown they aren’t afraid to splash the cash at the Light Blues.

Rangers will be getting a manager who expects his attackers to be his first defensive line and press relentlessly.

Shanghai Port like to put opposition teams under immense pressure by being active defensively and have often created goals on the counter under the Australian head coach.

It’s no surprise that Muscat is on course to win his second consecutive league title in China, and he could potentially bring back similar success in G51.
