What Rangers have told other managerial candidates as Kevin Muscat preferred
Kevin Muscat is currently the frontrunner to be the next Rangers manager, but there were similar stories about Steven Gerrard recently.
The Liverpool icon seemed to be Andrew Cavenagh and Paraag Marathe’s favourite to fill the vacancy in the Gers’ dugout.
Gerrard eventually turned down an opportunity to return to Ibrox, with the Englishman possibly believing the current hierarchical structure at the Light Blues wasn’t fit for him.
Muscat could now be appointed with Neil McCann as assistant manager, but it remains to be seen how the situation will unfold.

Rangers process still ongoing amid Kevin Muscat claims
Other candidates in the running to become the next Gers manager have been told that no decision has been made yet, Scott Burns says.
The Scottish journalist revealed that, despite Muscat being the preferred option at Ibrox, he has been told by different representatives that the process to appoint a new head coach is still ongoing.
Considering how a few days back Gerrard seemed close to being handed the reins of the Glaswegian outfit, it wouldn’t be surprising to see the Shanghai Port manager drop out of the race for the hot seat in G51.
Speaking on Hotline Live on 14 October, Burns said: “Late last night and most of today, everything was pointing towards Muscat becoming the next manager or was certainly the preferred candidate to become the next manager.”

“I’ve spoken to other representatives and candidates within the process, and they’ve all been told that the process is ongoing and no decision has been made.”
Muscat is likely to be offered the job by Cavenagh and Marathe if talks continue in a positive direction, but only time will tell what the future holds in G51.
Kevin Thelwell and Patrick Stewart credentials being questioned at Ibrox
Gerrard may not have wanted to work with Kevin Thelwell, as the Liverpool icon may have wanted more control of transfers.
Similarly, Patrick Stewart has been a central figure at Rangers since being appointed as CEO in December 2024, but his reputation among fans has been tainted in recent weeks.

Due to Martin’s failures at Ibrox, supporters have lost faith in some members of the boardroom as they hope for things to turn around quickly.
If Thelwell and Stewart’s influence at the Glaswegian outfit is indeed holding them back in their search for a quality head coach, the American owners should look to make changes.
