‘This is who is most likely to be appointed Rangers manager after latest from corridors of power at Ibrox’

Rangers are getting closer to appointing their Russell Martin successor.

Rangers face Dundee United on Saturday, and as things stand, they will be without a permanent manager in the dugout.

10 days have passed since Rangers parted ways with Martin, with a series of names linked with the vacancy at Ibrox.

However, after the latest update from Chris Jack via Rangers Review, the most likely candidate has now been named.

Kevin Muscat emerges as favourite for Rangers job

Steven Gerrard’s return hopes were cut short at Rangers after talks fell through in that regard, though several other names have been mentioned.

Kevin Muscat is one of those mooted to take over at Ibrox, having spent the last two years managing in China with Shanghai Port, with Danny Rohl also in line.

Now, Jack has claimed that Muscat is “more likely to be offered the job” if negotiations keep going in the direction that those at Ibrox are hopeful of.

It is claimed that both candidates “hold support within the corridors of power at Ibrox“, with interviews having taken place.

Muscat has found a lot of success throughout his time as a manager, and if given the job, he will need to replicate that in Glasgow.

Who is Kevin Muscat and why are Rangers chasing him?

Muscat‘s managerial career dates back to 2012, when he took over at Melbourne Victory as an interim boss at 39 years old.

Just a year later, he was appointed as their full-time manager and went on to spend six more successful years there.

He won the A-League Championship on two occasions, the A-League Premiership once, and secured victory in the FFA Cup back in 2015.

Since then, Muscat spent time in Japan and in China, where he won the Super League and FA Cup double in 2024.

While none of the leagues are particularly comparable to the Scottish Premiership, he has showcased his ability to captivate a team and lead them to success.

Rangers have not won the Scottish Premiership since Gerrard’s exit, which is why this hire may make plenty of sense.
