Russell Martin set for ‘substantial’ Rangers compensation as farce unfolds at Ibrox
Rangers may continue to face the repercussions of appointing Russell Martin in the summer.
The Scottish manager had an abysmal stint in G51 and was sacked just a few months into his tenure, leaving the Gers eighth in the William Hill Premiership.
Martin’s sacking at Ibrox was a long time coming, and the Light Blues finally pulled the plug on him after drawing against Falkirk on 5 October.
Kevin Muscat is now in line to become Rangers’ new head coach, but the former Southampton boss’ dismissal is expected to hurt the Glaswegian outfit’s pockets.

Russell Martin wants full Rangers contract paid up
Martin could potentially be paid a “substantial” figure after being sacked by the Gers, Keith Jackson says.
The Daily Record journalist has been told that the Scottish manager will push for his entire contract at Ibrox to be paid by the Light Blues.
With the former Southampton boss signing a three-year deal at the Glaswegian outfit, they may have taken a massive financial hit with their decision.
Speaking on Hotline Live on 14 October, Jackson said: “I spoke to somebody earlier on today who suggested that there’s every chance Martin might push for the full whack of his contract paid. I hear it’s a really substantial number. Which again points to the complete farce which continues to unfold at Ibrox.”
Andrew Cavenagh made the right call by sacking Martin, but he will certainly regret handing Kevin Thelwell the reins to appoint him in the first place.
The Scottish manager had a woeful record at the Light Blues, winning just five of his 17 games in charge, and a change in the dugout was inevitable after the mood in G51 turned toxic.
Russell Martin replacement hunt drags on
Steven Gerrard looked set to return to Ibrox, but the Liverpool icon turned down the opportunity and talks of the Glaswegian outfit making another attempt for him have been dismissed.
Danny Rohl also seems to be in the mix for the Rangers vacancy, but only time will tell how the situation will unfold.

Muscat looks to be in pole position in the race to fill the Gers’ hot seat, with Neil McCann part of his backroom staff.
The Glaswegian outfit have had the international break to appoint someone, but they are yet to do so as fans don’t know who will be in charge for the Dundee United clash on 18 October.
