Kevin Muscat wage details as £2m reveal emerges after Rangers job latest
Kevin Muscat has emerged as the favourite manager to become the new Rangers manager.
Muscat is the leading candidate for the Rangers job after Steven Gerrard failed to agree terms with Andrew Cavenagh and Paraag Marathe.
Currently at Shanghai Port in China, Muscat would look to finish the Chinese Super League season, meaning he would not take charge in Govan until late November.
This would leave Rangers with an interim manager until then, and Neil McCann was in Glasgow on Tuesday for talks with the Rangers board.
With the appointment looking more and more likely, one issue could be raised in the negotiations involving Muscat.

Kevin Muscat could take pay cut at Rangers
Muscat is on course to win a second successive Chinese Super League title, showcasing his ability to deliver trophies when expected.
Russell Martin’s disastrous spell at Rangers has left the Bears with little hope in the Scottish Premiership, yet after a full transfer window, Muscat has shown that he can build teams that are competing for trophies on multiple different fronts.
Reports from China have revealed that Muscat is earning £1.6-£2million a year at Shanghai Port, and that he is likely to take a pay cut should he join Rangers.
Muscat’s managerial CV:
- Melbourne Victory: 2012-2019
- Sint-Truiden: 2020
- Yokohama F. Marinos: 2021-2023
- Shangai Port: 2023-
Cavenagh may have to spend a fortune on Muscat, and if he wants the Australian manager that badly, he should pay up.
The Rangers board has been ruthlessly criticised this season, yet if they were to stand up and appoint the manager they want at a huge cost, that would instill some faith in the demoralised Rangers supporters.
Having already failed to secure Gerrard’s services, a failure to appoint Muscat would be an incredibly bad look for Cavenagh.

Muscat will be afforded time to turn things around, and the former Rangers defender will be looking to lift the bleak mood that surrounds Ibrox.

Kevin Muscat’s fiery personality would create belief amongst Rangers fans
Muscat played under former Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou when he was 17, and similarly managed Japanese side Yokohama F. Marinos.
Not only do their footballing philosophies align, but they share a fiery trait that supporters love to get behind.
With Rangers in need of a fast-paced, high-pressing style of play, Muscat could get fans off their seats and believing that they should be competing at the level they deserve to be.
Whilst negotiations surrounding his wages could prove to be an issue, Muscat’s arrival in Glasgow could be a sign of a more positive future under the 49ers.
