Darren Bent makes ‘nuts’ Kieran McKenna and Ipswich Town claim amid next Rangers manager latest

Kieran McKenna has been linked with the vacant manager role at Rangers of late.

Rangers sacked Russell Martin earlier in October after a terrible run of results sparked fury from supporters at Ibrox.

It seemed Steven Gerrard was going to return to Rangers as Andrew Cavenagh and Co. focused on bringing the Englishman back to Govan.

This deal fell through and left the Gers with egg on their face as Rangers quickly pivoted their attention to Kevin Muscat.

McKenna was also mentioned as a target in G51, with Darren Bent now speaking out on links to the Ipswich Town boss

Darren Bent insists Kieran McKenna would not swap Ipswich for Rangers

Rangers had McKenna as a managerial option after Gerrard opted to turn down a move back to the Scottish Premiership.

The ex-Manchester United coach is seen as one of the brightest coaches right now after a stellar few seasons with the Tractor Boys.

He may have been relegated with Ipswich last season, but there is no doubting the success he had when earning back-to-back promotions from League One to the Premier League.

The 39-year-old could have made for a top-class option at Ibrox, but Bent doesn’t believe that McKenna would swap Portman Road for the Light Blues.

Speaking via talkSPORT on 14 October, the ex-England international striker said that most Championship managers would turn Rangers down, including McKenna.

Andy Goldstein was left in complete agreement as he said: “When you say that, and I agree with you, it sounds nuts. Kieran McKenna would never, ever leave Ipswich for Rangers.

Rangers had no chance of landing McKenna

Rangers fans may disagree with Bent as a knee-jerk reaction due to their credentials as a big club.

The Bears need to wake up and smell the coffee because there is no world right now where McKenna would move to Govan.

Ipswich are one of the strongest sides in the Championship and have every chance of earning promotion back to the Premier League.

This would be a second promotion on the Englishman’s CV and another chance to prove his credentials in the top division of English football.

If this were to happen, he would likely be in line for some big jobs towards the higher end of the league should they become available.

They would all be more appealing than the mess Rangers continue to be right now.
