Nicolas Raskin hailed for ‘distinguished’ display after promising scenes away from Rangers
Nicolas Raskin has had a tough start to the 2025-26 campaign.
Despite the midfielder easily being one of the Gers’ best players last season, under Russell Martin, the Belgium international had a complicated start to the campaign.
After Raskin was heavily linked away from Rangers in the summer, the former Ibrox manager froze the 24-year-old out of the starting XI for weeks.
Nevertheless, when he did return to the lineup, he struggled, with Raskin putting in an awful performance against Falkirk, in what was Martin’s last game.
However, away from Rangers, the midfielder has been able to return to form.

Nicolas Raskin praised as Belgium overcome Wales 4-2
Raskin was one of many players called up for international duty at Rangers at the start of October as multiple nations look to qualify for the World Cup.
After a slightly disappointing 0-0 draw with North Macedonia last week, Belgium and Raskin managed to bounce back in style, with a 4-2 victory over Wales at the Cardiff City Stadium.
Raskin started the game and was key as Belgium flew to the top of their group with two games left to play.
Multiple media outlets were quick to praise the Rangers’ star’s performance, with the 24-year-old being key to their victory.

Le Soir on 13 October awarded the midfielder a 7.5/10, stating: “A little higher than usual thanks to the presence of Onana at his side, the Liège player distinguished himself in recovering the ball, in the play between the lines, in infiltration too.”
Walfoot on 13 October agreed with this sentiment, also awarding Raskin a 7.5/10 before commenting: “An ever-increasing hold on the midfield. Always harassing the ball carrier, always pushing forward. It will be difficult to bench him, even when Tielemans returns from injury.”
How good was Raskin vs Wales?
While Raskin was heavily praised by the media for his performance, Sofascore on 13 October were less kind.
The midfielder’s passing accuracy was not great at 72 per cent, while he was also only won four out of nine duels.
As a result, he was rewarded a 6.4 for his performance, the lowest of any Belgium player who started the game.

Nevertheless, there are encouraging signs from Raskin, and whoever is appointed as the new Rangers manager will be pleased that his form could soon return.
Raskin is vital if the Gers are to recover from their poor start to the season, and the Ibrox faithful are desperate to see him back to his best.
