Kevin Muscat’s greatest moments: History made at Rangers and titles galore as manager
Kevin Muscat looks to be the frontrunner for the Rangers vacancy.
Steven Gerrard was the leading contender for the Rangers job, but he pulled out of the race, citing concerns over the timing.
Therefore, the Australian has taken over as the preferred candidate, and Muscat could take charge of Rangers in November, due to his commitments with his current club, China’s Shanghai Port.
Ibrox News looks at Muscat‘s most memorable moments, from his time as a player at Ibrox and as a manager elsewhere.

Kevin Muscat helped Rangers to domestic treble
Muscat won three trophies as a Rangers player, in his sole season in Govan, in the 2002–03 campaign after he was signed from Wolves as a free transfer.
He featured 26 times as the Gers lifted the Scottish Premiership, the Scottish Cup and the League Cup in a domestic treble.
It was the seventh time that the Light Blues had managed to achieve that, and Muscat departed for Millwall after his only campaign with the Scottish giants.
Four league titles with Melbourne Victory as a player, three more as manager
Muscat won two league titles with Melbourne Victory in Australia in his last stint as a player.
He would help the Australian side to the 2006-07 and 2008-09 Premiership and Championship doubles before retiring from his playing career in 2011.
He served as assistant manager with the club for two years after he finished as a player, and was appointed as permanent manager in October 2013, after Ange Postecoglou had left to take the Australia job.
In his first full season as manager, he guided the Victory to a Premiership-Championship double in the 2014-15 season and won the Championship again in the 2017–18 campaign.
He also won the FFA Cup in 2015 and was named as the A-League Coach of the Year for the 2014–15 season.
Muscat has won two more league titles and other trophies
Muscat was hired by Yokohama F. Marinos in July 2021, again succeeding Postecoglou, and he won the J-League in 2022 and the Japanese Super Cup in 2023.
He was appointed as Shanghai Port manager in December 2023 and guided them to the Chinese Super League title and the FA Cup in 2024.
His side currently sit two points ahead in the league, so he could add another title in China to his resume, before he takes the gig at Ibrox.
