Kevin Muscat strikes ‘secret agreement’ with well-known Rangers figure as compensation details emerge
Kevin Muscat finally looks set to land the Rangers job after years of being linked with the position.
Muscat is regularly mentioned as a contender for the Rangers job when it comes up, most recently prior to Russell Martin’s appointment in the summer.
With Martin having recently been sacked by Rangers, Muscat appears to be the frontrunner for the job after Steven Gerrard turned it down.
Indeed, it is believed Muscat is already working on appointing his Rangers backroom staff to join him at Ibrox, likely in a month’s time when the Chinese Super League season concludes.

Kevin Muscat already has agreement with Neil McCann
It has been widely reported that Neil McCann will be among those to join Muscat at Ibrox once the appointment is made.
McCann is no stranger to Ibrox, of course, having represented Rangers during his playing days and also coached them temporarily last season.
Derek Ferguson believes McCann and Muscat could be an ideal link-up for Rangers, with the former likely taking caretaker charge until his colleague is freed up to join.
According to Keith Jackson via the Daily Record, Muscat had a “secret agreement” in place with McCann dating back a couple of years on one of the previous occasions he was touted with the job.

Should Rangers reach an agreement with Muscat, the report adds that they must pay Shanghai Port a “hefty compensation fee” as he is under contract for another year.
Muscat’s managerial record ahead of Rangers appointment
Muscat has managed four different clubs across the world, with his best win rate coming in his current position with Shanghai Port.
As per Sofascore, the Australian has won 65 per cent of the 77 matches he has managed with the Chinese side, whom he is on the brink of winning the league with.
Club | Games in charge | Win rate |
Melbourne Victory (caretaker) | 1 | 100% |
Melbourne Victory (permanent) | 214 | 49% |
Sint-Truiden | 15 | 13% |
Yokohama F. Marinos | 116 | 58% |
Shanghai Port | 77 | 65% |
Muscat also had success with Melbourne Victory in the past, where he enjoyed the longest spell of his managerial career as that spanned over 200 matches.
The 52-year-old, like McCann, played for Rangers in the past – explaining their connection – and he will need to telling of what exactly being Gers boss entails.
It appears Andrew Cavenagh and Paraag Marathe finally have their man, so let’s just hope confirmation arrives sooner rather than later.
