Yet another manager ruled out in Rangers hunt after Steven Gerrard drama at Ibrox

Danny Rohl appears to be at the top of the pile to take over as Rangers manager.

The German remains jobless after leaving Sheffield Wednesday in the summer, but the door has opened at Ibrox after Russell Martin was sacked on 5 October.

Steven Gerrard appeared set to land the job, but backed out at the last moment as the timing was said to be wrong for his potential Ibrox return.

Plenty of other names keep appearing, but they are now starting to fall away.

Rohl is the frontrunner after impressing in talks with Paraag Marathe and Andrew Cavenagh.

That hasn’t stopped the likes of Kieran McKenna and Ralph Hassenhuttl from being mentioned as possible options to replace Martin in Govan.

One man it won’t be, however, is Slaven Bilic.

The Scottish Daily Mail has reported in its print edition on 13 October that, after being put to the Rangers board last week, they would like a younger option than the Croatian.

The Croatian never appeared to be a serious contender for the role, in yet another apparent waste of time when looking for who is next.

Rohl still isn’t fancied by the Rangers fans, so Cavenagh and Marathe may need to learn their lessons from the appointment of Martin and start getting serious.

After mass Rangers protests surrounding Kevin Thelwell and Patrick Stewart, too, things are seriously starting to get messy behind the scenes at Ibrox.

Bilic is yet to win major silverware in his management career, despite controlling the likes of Croatia, Besiktas, West Brom and West Ham.

Rangers need to get their act together quickly, though, with the Ibrox showdown against Dundee United now approaching on 18 October.

The Gerrard drama has only proven how unprepared the board were for this, and it is really starting to reveal more cracks at the highest level.
