Martin Keown fancies much-travelled manager for Rangers job, it’d be an ‘interesting’ choice

Rangers could be waiting a while longer yet before a new man walks through the doors at Ibrox.

After emerging updates revealed Rangers may be conducting an extended manager search, Gers fans will most likely have to wait patiently.

Steven Gerrard’s Rangers return collapse has rocked everyone connected to the Bears, as Andrew Cavenagh lines up other candidates.

Derek McInnes has been linked with the Rangers job, while Graham Potter rumours have been quashed.

There have been some unexpected links to the job, as one name in particular has just been publicly backed by Martin Keown.

Ex-Arsenal defender Martin Keown backs Slaven Bilic for Rangers job

In recent days, Slaven Bilic has been tipped for the Rangers job.

Bilic has managed the likes of West Ham, West Brom and even the Croatian national team, but Rangers fans don’t seem to be inspired by the link.

Talking live on talkSPORT, Keown delivered his verdict on Bilic – who has held 11 managerial positions all across the world – potentially taking the reins at Ibrox.

“Slaven Bilic is an interesting manager. You can’t underestimate what he’s done in international football, and at West Ham. He may not be a bad fit for Rangers,” he said.

“Gerrard was a safe pair of hands and it would have generated an interest for the fans, who see him a hero, but I’m afraid that ship has sailed.”

With all the noise on potential managers, Bilic is a free agent, but could he really be a success at Rangers?

Bilic could surprise people at Rangers

Russell Martin couldn’t handle the pressure of the Rangers job. However, Bilic has previously worked roles that have come with severe media and hierarchy pressure.

Bilic has the capability of building a strong dressing room, and has been previously praised for his man-management skills.

Historically, the experienced Croatian head coach has deployed his teams to be physical but has always given attackers the creative freedom to express themselves, a style which would suit Scottish football.

Bilic could unexpectedly be exactly what Rangers need to turn this season on it’s head.
