Legend keeps head down at Rangers as new manager advice crumbles at Ibrox

Rangers are making a real mess of this season.

Andrew Cavenagh and the 49ers Enterprises completed their takeover ahead of the new season, leading to renewed positivity around Ibrox.

That didn’t last long, though, with their first appointment, Russell Martin already sacked after leaving Rangers eighth in the Scottish Premiership and out of the Champions League.

Steven Gerrard looked set to return to Ibrox, but a last-minute change of heart has left the Rangers board scrambling for answers in their manager hunt again.

One legend will have left a bad taste for the new ownership during this process, too.

What is happening in Rangers manager hunt now?

Danny Rohl appears to be the new frontrunner for the role.

That hasn’t filled Rangers fans with hope, though, given he comes from a similar EFL background that Martin came from.

It was a Rangers legend who was asked to recommend a manager who could deal with the pressure of Ibrox, according to Alan Nixon.

Reporting via his Patreon, the journalist shared that Martin was suggested due to his reputation in England, with the legend now keeping his head down after things went wrong.

Asked if the unnamed figure is involved again, Nixon said: “He’s not central just now, but you never know.”

Who is left in Rangers manager running?

With Rohl seemingly out infront, there are other names who continue to be mentioned.

Kieran McKenna and Ralph Hassenhuttl are two interesting names, but Slaven Bilic is an early contender who can be ruled out at Ibrox.

Sean Dyche is another name who left the running as soon as he joined it.

Raphael Wicky is a foreign option if Rangers go down that route, and he has won a domestic double with Young Boys FC in Switzerland before.

The Bears welcome Dundee United to Ibrox on 18 October, and it is quickly looking like an interim team will be in charge, with this saga rumbling on yet again.

Either way, the American owners are not painting themselves in the best light, with Kevin Thelwell and Patrick Stewart under huge scrutiny.

Something needs to change, and quickly.
