Erik Ten Hag to Rangers question emerges in new manager twist after Steven Gerrard
Rangers have been forced to go back to the drawing board in their search for a new manager.
Steven Gerrard had been the top choice to replace Russell Martin at Rangers, with the former Gers boss available after leaving Saudi Pro League club Al-Ettifaq in January.
But after talks with the board at Ibrox, Gerrard rejected the Rangers job and will not return to the club, yet.
It has been suggested that the timing was not right for the 45-year-old, who is eager to get his managerial career back on track.
Danny Rohl now looks to be the frontrunner for the Rangers job, after the German left Sheffield Wednesday in July.

Henry Winter responds to Erik ten Hag question
Raphael Wicky has also emerged as an option for Rangers, with decision-makers at Ibrox keen to evaluate every potential alternative to Gerrard.
Derek McInnes, Frank Lampard, and Kevin Muscat have all been mentioned, but the options for the Gers look to be whittling down by the day.

One name out of left field was suggested to Henry Winter on Sunday – that of former Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag.
The Dutchman’s stock has reduced significantly in recent years following a shambolic two-year spell at Old Trafford that left the Red Devils perilously close to the Premier League relegation zone upon his exit.
Still, Ten Hag was handed the chance to take over at Bayer Leverkusen this season, but his tenure would last just three months and three competitive matches without victory.
The fan who had suggested the Dutchman for Rangers also asked whether money was the reason Gerrard had turned down the chance to return.
Winter replied: “If I know one thing about Steven Gerrard, is he’s not driven by money. He’s driven by the possibility of trophies, and working conditions that lead to that end.”
Rangers do not need a tumultuous character like Ten Hag
Off the back of Martin‘s departure, Rangers need a manager who will certainly give his players a kick up the backside. But Ten Hag is likely not the man wearing the right type of boots.
During his short time at Leverkusen, the former Ajax manager reportedly clashed repeatedly with the board and failed to build any meaningful relationship with anyone at the club.
Rangers need to strike a balance with their choice, with the next manager needing to motivate their players and demand results, whilst maintaining a healthy position amid a need for sustainability.
