Danny Rohl is the perfect man for Rangers after striking admission from ex-Celtic starlet

Danny Rohl is being heavily linked with the vacant managerial job at Rangers.

The links between the 55-time Premiership winners and the 36-year-old have drawn a mixed reaction from supporters, particularly after Steven Gerrard’s decision to distance himself from the job over the weekend.

Gerrard withdrew himself from contention for the Rangers job, citing poor timing as the reason behind his decision to step away from the running, despite holding effective talks with the board.

Rohl does not have the same level of experience as the Liverpudlian, who is held in extremely high regard at Ibrox, but he has countless admirers within the game at present.

Barry Bannan admits Danny Rohl is ‘built’ for British football

Rohl is now a frontrunner to take over at Rangers, but the situation that has unfolded with Gerrard is likely to put him on the back foot, given the latter’s popularity in Govan.

The 45-year-old’s return looked likely at one stage, and if Rohl does get handed the opportunity to lead the team, then he could easily find himself having to win over doubters purely due to the fact that he isn’t Gerrard.

However, while there are several supporters who are understandably sceptical about the German’s credentials, an admission has just been made that will surely lift the mood among the fans.

Somewhat surprisingly, it has come from former Celtic academy starlet Barry Bannan, who captained Sheffield Wednesday under Rohl’s guidance.

“He’s built for the British game,” the former Scotland international told the Daily Record.

“A few weeks ago, he was going around clubs in America seeing how they work. Thomas Muller took him to Vancouver Whitecaps. He told me it was a lovely set-up but at the game, there was no real passion.

“Danny loves passionate fans. That’s why he took to English football – and it’s another level altogether at the Old Firm.”

Rohl’s desire to see active and passionate support could quickly see him build a rapport with the Ibrox faithful, and that unity between the fans and the team has been desperately lacking of late.

Rangers have some of the strongest support in British football, and if Rohl could build a relationship with them, it could make him the perfect man to take the reins.

Rangers should see that Danny Rohl is destined for top-level management

Rohl’s ambition will certainly be eye-catching for the Rangers board, and he has a real drive to manage at the top level in the future.

The former assistant of the Germany national team has a strong desire to take charge of a team in the Bundesliga at some stage of his career, while he has also been heavily linked with Premier League jobs in the past.

With that in mind, it may be a sensible decision for the Gers to place their faith in him. Russell Martin arrived with similar praise from within the game, but Rohl has a crucial adaptability to him that Martin never had.

Rangers fans may have hoped for someone with a slightly more striking CV, but if Rohl is the man who gets job, then he is certainly deserving of their full support.
