Rangers set for extended manager hunt as interview reveal emerges – ‘This could take a while’

A dramatic start to the season at Rangers has only just been heightened.

Just when things started to seem a little clearer, Steven Gerrard turned down the Rangers job, with Andrew Cavengah and Paraag Marathe almost back to square one.

Rangers are still searching for Russell Martin‘s successor, as Graham Potter is now emerging as a candidate.

Further developing updates are showing that Rangers fans could be waiting a lot longer for a new man to take the reins at Ibrox than first expected.

Hugh Keevins reveals Russell Martin was interviewed seven times for Rangers job

The Rangers hierarchy has come under major pressure in recent times, with many poor decisions being made their own fault.

It looked like Gerrard was set to return to Ibrox, but even if he was a leading favourite, it was never going to be that simple.

In The Sunday Mail’s print edition on 12 October, Hugh Keevins has revealed further insight into the time it could take for Rangers to hire Martin’s successor.

“A rigorous and thoughtful process to recruit a new club figurehead must also be about more than one candidate and one meeting in London,” he wrote.

“Martin was interviewed seven times, apparently, and Rangers still got it wrong.

With Gerrard now out of the picture, new names have begun to emerge as favourites, but information about Martin’s appointment suggests it could be November before a new man takes charge at Ibrox.

Danny Rohl, Derek McInnes, and Graham Potter all in picture for Rangers job

Derek McInnes has been touted for the Rangers job, but it’s been revealed that his compensation payout owed to Hearts could be a stumbling block in his potential appointment.

Potter would no doubt raise questions from the Rangers faithful after his last couple of torrid stints as a head coach in the Premier League.

Danny Rohl, on the other hand, could be the most optimistic and sensible decision.

Rohl is an up-and-coming coach, currently a free agent, who has major experience working as a coach at Bayern Munich, the German national team, and as head coach of Sheffield Wednesday.

More candidates will likely emerge in the coming days, but with this update, it’s now unlikely a new man will be in charge for Rangers’ next game against Dundee United.
