Danny Rohl already on back foot at Rangers as Andrew Cavenagh to face fan fury

Danny Rohl has seen the door at Rangers open wide after Steven Gerrard snubbed Andrew Cavenagh and Paraag Marathe.

Gerrard was a heavy favourite to replace Russell Martin, but the Liverpool icon, who won the league title in his previous stint at the Gers, has rejected an opportunity to return to G51.

Rohl is now seen as the frontrunner to fill the Ibrox vacancy, and the former Sheffield Wednesday manager will undoubtedly have a tough task on his hands at the Light Blues.

Before the German head coach has even set foot at the Glaswegian outfit, the American ownership may have put him at a disadvantage.

Steven Gerrard disappointment at Rangers to affect Danny Rohl

With many fans anticipating Gerrard’s return, his refusal to take the Gers’ hot seat must be frustrating, Calum Crowe says.

The Daily Mail journalist believes resentment among the Ibrox faithful is inevitable after missing out on the English manager.

That may leave Rohl, 36, on the back foot in terms of support in G51 and could potentially leave the door open for the scrutiny of the American ownership if their next appointment doesn’t work out.

Crowe wrote in the Daily Mail on 12 October: “There will be an inevitable feeling of resentment among some supporters that the new manager isn’t Gerrard. Ultimately, the owners have put the new manager on the back foot with fans before he is even in the door.”

Crowe added: “If it is to be Rohl, and all signs point to that now being the case, they’d better hope the German can turn things around quickly. Because one more bum move from the Yanks will see fans turn their fury on the boardroom rather than the dugout.”

While the Glaswegian outfit find themselves in turmoil already, Rohl may be the perfect option at Ibrox, with Barcelona manager Hansi Flick impressed with his work at Hillsborough.

Andrew Cavenagh and Paraag Marathe won’t last long at Ibrox

Cavenagh and Marathe took the reins to appoint Gerrard, but in the end, they failed to get it over the line once again.

The Liverpool icon was in the mix to be Rangers manager in the summer, but Russell Martin was the chosen one after a lengthy process.

With fans questioning the US consortium’s capabilities just a few months into their ownership, they could possibly face the full wrath if things don’t change.

The Americans may have to tuck their tails and run if they aren’t deemed up to the mark at the Gers.
