La Liga suits Rangers forward who’s already admitted he wants Spanish transfer

Very few players have performed well for Rangers this season.

Rangers made 13 signings in the summer transfer window, yet most of them have failed to adapt to the intensity of Scottish football.

Russell Martin’s inevitable sacking has left Steven Gerrard as the frontrunner to replace him, and it will be up to the players to prove their worth under the new manager.

However, one summer signing has already alluded to his future career plans away from Rangers.

Oliver Antman eyes future move to Spain

Oliver Antman joined Rangers for an initial fee of £3m plus add-ons from Go Ahead Eagles after an incredibly successful season in the Netherlands.

His exploits last season helped Go Ahead win the KNVB Cup, ending their 92-year trophy drought and securing them European football for this season.

The right-winger was sought after by many clubs across Europe, but Kevin Thelwell was able to strike a deal forward for the Finland international.

Antman has enjoyed the majority of his career in Denmark, spending seven seasons playing for Nordsjælland before moving to Go Ahead last season.

He also had a trial with Barcelona in 2012, before later playing for the Catalonian-based Cornella and CF Damm youth teams.

Dutch football expert and Voetbal International journalist Sander Janssen kept a close eye on Antman’s success at Go Ahead Eagles, and he spoke exclusively to Ibrox News about what the future could hold for the 24-year-old.

He said: “I don’t know if he’ll reach the absolute top of football, but I definitely think Antman can become a success at Rangers or maybe a similar club. He’s a very smart person who’s never really satisfied with his game.

“He can be very critical of himself, so he knows what he can do better. That’s an important aspect for a player.

“During his youth, Antman played in Barcelona for a year. He stated earlier this year that it would be his dream to play in Spain again. I think that league really suits him.”

Oliver Antman’s stats for Rangers this season

With Steven Gerrard set to become the new Rangers manager, it’s up to Antman to grasp that starting spot with both hands whilst he remains at G51.

Steven Gerrard must place faith in Oliver Antman

Antman has failed to gain regular playing time since his move to Ibrox, and that is in large part due to Martin.

Mikey Moore was preferred over Antman for much of the season, despite fans calling for him to be dropped because of his performances.

He was eventually selected in Rangers’ 2-1 win over Livingston, providing an assist for James Tavernier’s acrobatic opening goal.

Should Gerrard be appointed, he will be coming into the fold with an open view on every player, and Antman has proved himself to be one of Rangers’ most effective creators.

With a potential move to Spain on the cards in the near future, Antman will have to put his best foot forward when selected by Gerrard and not disappoint.

The only thing Antman needs to succeed at Rangers is confidence, and that’s something Gerrard could instill in him by giving him a consistent run of matches.

As for his plans after life in Glasgow, only time will tell whether Antman will stay with the Bears to help achieve major success for the fans.
