Bojan Miovski will be desperate to play under Steven Gerrard after previous Rangers evidence

Rangers are seemingly closing in on the appointment of a new manager as further talks commence this weekend.

The Gers have been without a permanent boss since last Sunday’s 1-1 draw with Falkirk was viewed as the final straw for Russell Martin’s disastrous reign, but that could be about to change in the near future.

Steven Gerrard’s return to Rangers had seemingly been all but agreed, but club chiefs in Govan have since insisted that they are still keen to explore other potential candidates.

Nevertheless, fans are understandably desperate to see the return of a former hero in Gerrard, and Bojan Miovski would surely be similarly excited if he were appointed.

Steven Gerrard’s Rangers striker record will delight Bojan Miovski

Miovski was an eye-catching signing for Rangers when he arrived from Girona at the end of August, but he has made a fairly slow start to his Ibrox career.

The North Macedonian has netted just one goal from his four Premiership games so far this season, but his previous exploits for Aberdeen show everything that the Gers need to know if they are able to get him firing.

The 26-year-old struck 32 league goals across his two seasons at Pittodrie, and Gerrard would be the ideal boss to help him find a similarly rich vein of form for Rangers.

He always got the best out of strikers during at the helm in Govan, and there is ample evidence of that in the goal tallies that his frontmen achieved under his guidance.

SeasonTotal Goals Scored (League Rank)Top Scorer
2018-1982 (1st)Alfredo Morelos (18)
2019-2064 (2nd)Jermain Defoe (13)
2020-2192 (1st)Kemar Roofe (14)
The top scorers from Gerrard’s three full seasons at Rangers, as per FBref.

A Rangers striker netted 13 or more league goals in all three of the 45-year-old’s full seasons in charge, with the highest total being the 18 struck by Alfredo Morelos in 2018-19.

The impact that Gerrard had on the Colombian is highlighted even further by the fact that he has never matched that tally for league goals throughout his career.

With that in mind, Miovski will surely be hoping that Gerrard gets the nod to take over and can help to transform him into the next striker to win the hearts of the fanbase.

Bojan Miovski should guarantee goals in the Premiership

Miovski’s signing was certainly a coup for Rangers, given the way that he terrorised Premiership defences during his previous spell in Scotland.

He failed to translate that form over into La Liga during his time with Girona, but there can be no doubting the fact that he virtually guarantees goals in Scotland when he is playing with confidence.

If used effectively, the former MTK Budapest man will be a real weapon for whoever steps into the dugout, be that Gerrard or another manager.

Ultimately, the opinion of the Rangers board is the only one that matters when it comes to the appointment, but it would be no surprise at all if Miovski’s heart is already set on Gerrard.
