Steven Gerrard wants coach hailed as ‘secret weapon’ by Cesc Fabregas as Rangers right-hand man
Steven Gerrard is already thinking about what managing at Rangers will look like.
Rangers sacked Russell Martin last weekend after several disappointing results in the Scottish Premiership.
A return to Ibrox for Gerrard was mooted long before Martin was dismissed, but he is currently leading the charge to replace the former Gers coach.
While Gerrard’s loyalty to Rangers has been questioned in recent weeks, it seems he is already imagining life at the Scottish club.

Steven Gerrard wants Steve Holland at Rangers
Gerrard is currently in talks with the Rangers hierarchy to replace Martin after a terrible start to the Scottish Premiership season.
If he ends up taking the role, Gerrard will attempt to lure former England coach Steve Holland as part of his brand-new Rangers backroom team, according to the Daily Record on 9 October.
The 52-year-old was former Three Lions manager Gareth Southgate’s number two for eight years and helped them reach two European Championship finals.
Holland spent six years at Chelsea from 2011 until 2017, where he made an impression on Cesc Fabregas.
In quotes provided by Scoremates in July 2021, in his column for The Telegraph, Fabregas wrote: “Steve Holland’s meticulous coaching brain is England’s secret weapon.
“Assistant managers can be undervalued when it comes to handing out praise to people for the performances and results of a team, but, in Steve Holland, England have one of the very best.”

Holland has been out of work since April this year after he was sacked by Japanese club Yokohama Marinos. However, if a deal can be done for Gerrard to return to Ibrox, he could arrive at the Glasgow club.
What is Steven Gerrard’s record at Rangers?
Gerrard spent 1,228 days as Rangers head coach, which was the longest he has spent as manager at any club to date.
During that time, the Gers became the second team to win the Scottish Premiership unbeaten, and the Liverpool legend became a fan favourite.
- Gerrard won 124 matches while Rangers manager
- He drew 41 and lost only 27 in 192 games
The statistics speak for themselves. Not only was he one of the most successful individuals to manage the Gers in recent history, but he was a coach who could win games with ease.
After a disappointing start to the Premiership, Rangers fans will be craving consistency moving forward, and with an almost iron-clad managerial record at Ibrox, Gerrard seems to be the right man to lead them forward.
