Three Rangers players who’ll thrive under Steven Gerrard, ace who contributed to Russell Martin sack included
It hasn’t taken long for Andrew Cavenagh and the 49ers to figure out their top candidates to replace Russell Martin.
Despite Martin’s heavy compensation, Rangers simply had to pull the trigger on the head coach.
Cavenagh backed Martin to turn results around, but from day one, it always looked like it was never going to work out.
Steven Gerrard emerged early as a favourite for the Rangers job, and he is now set to hold talks with the Rangers hierarchy.
Rangers fans want to see Gerrard back at Ibrox, and three players may benefit most from his arrival.

Connor Barron
Since arriving from Aberdeen, Connor Barron hasn’t played as well for Rangers as he would’ve liked, as there have been concerns over his performances in big games.
The midfielder has seen stints under Phillipe Clement, Barry Ferguson, and Martin, but Barron has failed to establish himself as a consistent first-team starter this year.
Games | Goals | Assists |

Barron is a high-energy midfielder who has a good passing range, partnered with a good work-rate, as he will suit Gerrard’s playstyle.
Gerrard‘s teams like to be able to control the tempo of a game, as he could look to Barron as a key player should he complete his return to Ibrox.

Oliver Antman
Rangers splashed £20m this summer, and one of the most expensive transfers was the exciting signing of Oliver Antman.
The winger, like many this season under Martin, has had poor showings in a Rangers shirt, but with Gerrard’s potential arrival, his fortunes could soon change.
- Oliver Antman signed for Rangers on a four-year deal
- He registered 21 goal contributions in the Eredivisie last season
- He has two assists in 13 outings for Gers this campaign
When Gerrard was previously at the Gers, he usually deployed wingers, with players like Ryan Kent thriving.

Antman has yet to register a goal in 13 games for the Bears, but if anyone can get the best out of him, it will be Gerrard and a possible 4-3-3 formation, which will give the winger license to express himself.
Youssef Chermiti
Portuguese striker Youssef Chermiti was another big-money gamble by Cavenagh and Co. in the summer.
In just six appearances, there have already been concerns over Chermiti and whether he is up to Rangers’ level.
Indeed, his lack of impact following his big-money arrival helped contribute to Martin’s sack in many ways.
Chermiti is a towering striker who could offer Gerrard a physical presence up top, and a target for wide players to cross to.
He could also be managed to hold up the play, bringing in wingers like Antman and Djeidi Gassama, as Rangers could transform their attacking philosophy with Gerrard’s return.
Gerrard’s return isn’t confirmed, but he is certainly the nailed-on favourite, as Rangers fans can start getting excited over seeing their players and team perform once again.
