Steven Gerrard’s loyalty questioned as Rangers hierarchy set for talks

Steven Gerrard has been heavily linked with a return to Rangers.

Rangers have been the laughing stock of Scottish football for some time now, and a lot of that stems from Russell Martin, who faced the sack at Ibrox last week.

The Light Blues have not won the Scottish Premiership since 2022, and with just one win from their first seven games, look as though they will be nowhere near competing for it once again this season.

With Gerrard linked with a return to Rangers to fix that, Simon Jordan has detailed the questions he would have the former title-winner if he were to be the one interviewing him for the job.

Simon Jordan details questions Steven Gerrard must face

Gerrard found a lot of success at Rangers, and the Light Blues have quite frankly been starved of it since his departure several years ago.

Whether that’s a coincidence and an effect of poor decisions since, or a showcase of just how impressive the job he did at Ibrox was, is up for debate.

However, what isn’t up for debate is the fact that Gerrard had no hesitation in moving on from Glasgow when a so-called bigger job emerged for the former Liverpool icon.

Gerrard is set for talks with Rangers, and when speaking live on talkSPORT, Jordan insisted that the 45-year-old is quizzed on where his loyalty stands if he were to return to Ibrox.

Jordan said: “How are you going to fix my problems? What are you going to do to get me out of the problem that I’m in? What is your vision of how it should be done?

“Are you going to do the same thing as you did last time, which is basically come along, when a Premier League job comes along, you’re going to jump ship when it suits you best.

“All of these sorts of things. But I want to get right into the understanding of the fella, rather than the media’s perception of him. And also, the reasons why he wasn’t successful at Aston Villa, the reasons why he took the Saudi job and what problems he would fix for me.”

Rangers need longevity in next appointment

Gerrard would improve things at Rangers if he were to return; there is no doubt about that.

However, after years of underachieving, the Light Blues need someone to come in and take this team forward for years to come and ensure success on a regular basis.

Whoever that proves to be will need to show that they are committed to the cause, and will not use Ibrox as a stepping stone to better their career.

Most importantly, the next manager has to be someone who can reunite the supporters, who have suffered broken promises and trust over the last few years.
