Robbie Thelwell bombshell as questions raised over Rangers whereabouts
Robbie Thelwell was touted to be the next head of recruitment at Rangers before Russell Martin was sacked.
Andrew Cavenagh may be regretting giving Kevin Thelwell the reins, with the Gers going through one of their worst spells in recent history.
Robbie’s imminent arrival at Ibrox led to much criticism, with the Light Blues’ sporting director not having the best of reputations among the supporters in G51.
Considering the turmoil the Glaswegian outfit find themselves in, the 26-year-old’s potential appointment has rightly raised alarms among fans, but there may be a twist.

Rangers yet to confirm Robbie Thelwell appointment
Keith Jackson wonders about Robbie’s whereabouts as the Gers looked set to hire him.
As far as the Daily Record journalist knows, the possible new head of recruitment is yet to arrive, despite the appointment seemingly being done at Ibrox.
Jackson hasn’t seen any confirmation on the Norwich City chief’s new role at the Glaswegian outfit, which does feel odd.
Speaking on Hotline Live on 7 October, the journalist said: “Where’s Robbie? A week ago, that looked like an appointment was just about done and dusted, so much so that Martin was even talking about it in press conferences. Robbie is yet to arrive, as far as I can see. I don’t see any confirmation of his appointment.”

Cavenagh has been taken for a ride by Kevin, and it’s encouraging to see the chairman now taking the initiative in the new managerial search.
Supporters want to see a turnaround at the Gers sooner rather than later, but it remains to be seen how the situation unfolds in G51.
Kevin Thelwell next on Ibrox chopping block after Russell Martin
Thelwell should walk out the door after Martin’s dismissal, with the sporting director also responsible for the crisis at the Light Blues.
Rangers find themselves eighth in the William Hill Premiership after suffering one of their worst starts to a league campaign under the Scottish manager.
Players | Transfer fee |
Youssef Chermiti | £8million |
Oliver Antman | £3.5m |
Thelo Aasgaard | £3.5m |
Bojan Miovski | £2.6m |
Emmanuel Fernandez | £2.5m |
The recruitment strategy at the Glaswegian outfit in the summer was also underwhelming, with most of the 12 new players Thelwell brought failing to meet expectations.
Cavenagh and Paraag Marathe should be assessing the former Everton chief’s work at the Gers in recent months, and his departure wouldn’t be surprising.
