Rangers next manager round-up: Andrew Cavenagh flies in as Steven Gerrard gives his answer

Rangers are searching for a new manager after sacking Russell Martin.

Martin was sacked by Rangers after the draw with Falkirk, which left him with just one win from his first seven league matches.

His appointment was very unpopular with the Gers fanbase, and the 49ers Enterprises group and Andrew Cavenagh, the majority owners in Govan, need to get the next man right.

Here, Ibrox News rounds up the latest on the search for a new manager at Ibrox.

Rangers manager hunt turns to farce as boardroom divide emerges

Rangers’ board was divided over sacking Martin and have not yet drawn up a shortlist to replace him.

A report from Sky Sports on 7 October claims that there is no outstanding candidate for the role at the moment.

It will not exactly strike confidence for Gers fans that there is no immediate plan in the aftermath of letting Martin go.

Hearts’ stance on Derek McInnes emerges as Rangers job linked again

Derek McInnes is one name linked with the Rangers role, with the Gers not hiring him in the past when they could have.

However, the 54-year-old is top of the Scottish Premiership with Hearts, and a report from the Edinburgh Evening News claims that the Tynecastle outfit would resist any approach.

The Jambos are understood to be “relaxed” about the situation at the moment, as no approach has been made by the Light Blues.

Steven Gerrard speaks out amid Rangers links

Steven Gerrard has broke his silence on a potential Rangers return after Martin was dismissed.

The ex-Liverpool captain, who steered the Gers to the 2020-21 Scottish Premiership title, has been constantly linked with the job.

Speaking on the Rio Ferdinand presents podcast on 7 October, he said: “I’ve had five or six really interesting phone calls since I stopped in Saudi. And I haven’t been ready because I haven’t got that team set around me.

And the timing hasn’t been right. My daughter’s just had a baby. I’ve just become a granddad. I wasn’t ready. I haven’t got my staff ready.

“So unfortunately, them opportunities or them phone calls have come at the wrong time, if you like.

But if the right call comes my way, the right club, the right challenge, and I’ve got my people set, which I will have at some point, I’ll take that challenge on because it’s in me. It’s in me.”

It is important to note, that the interview was likely filmed before the dugout at Ibrox was available once again.

Andrew Cavenagh jets into UK for Rangers meeting

Rangers chief Andrew Cavenagh has flown into the UK as talks are scheduled over the Ibrox vacancy.

A report from the Daily Record on 7 October claims that the US businessman has a face-to-face meeting set in London with senior figures from the Govan club.

It states that Paraag Marathe and Cavenagh expect to be handed a list of names to choose from in the 9 October sit-down.
