Patrick Stewart to face pressure for ‘monumental’ Rangers blunder, he’s thrown fans ‘under the bus’
Patrick Stewart could be about to find himself under pressure at Rangers in the coming weeks.
Russell Martin was finally given his marching orders at Ibrox on Sunday evening in the aftermath of the 1-1 draw at Falkirk, as the board finally decided that enough was enough.
Martin’s dismissal has brought speculation at Rangers once again, with the likes of Steven Gerrard and Derek McInnes thought to be in the frame to take over the reins.
However, the blame for this season’s debacle likely extends beyond the departed manager, and the club’s CEO now finds himself in the line of fire.

Four Lads take aim at Patrick Stewart for ‘calamitous’ Russell Martin appointment
Stewart is likely to be facing pressure at Rangers in the aftermath of Martin’s reign.
The former interim Manchester United CEO took up the role at Ibrox in December 2024 and has since overseen several major events during his brief stint at the helm.
He publicly backed Philippe Clement shortly before his dismissal at Rangers back in February, and is now coming under scrutiny for his role in Martin’s appointment.
Steven Clifford, of the reputable Rangers podcast Four Lads Had a Dream, believes that Stewart should be facing pressure as a result of the continued issues that he has been a part of.
“Stewart has a position in far too many failures already,” Clifford wrote in his column for The Rangers Review.
“The backing of Clement to then sack him weeks later, the desire to throw the fans instantly under the bus for the tifo and now his involvement in what has been a calamitous appointment.

“The season may not be ‘done’, but it’s close to it, and he’s overseen yet another monumental blunder.”
The tifo that Clifford mentioned was in reference to a display depicting a famous image of Graeme Souness holding a shotgun prior to an Old Firm clash in May, which was then condemned by the club.
Rangers’ hierarchy needs a rethink
Stewart isn’t the only man under pressure in the Rangers hierarchy at the moment, and it is clear that a rethink is needed at the top of the club.
Martin may have been the recognisable face of the failing project that is the 2025-26 campaign, but the likes of Stewart are also equally to blame for the poor decision-making over the summer.
Kevin Thelwell and the recruitment team have left the squad hugely poorly equipped to compete on both the domestic and European fronts.
The Premiership season may already be beyond saving for the Gers, and that isn’t entirely Martin’s fault.
Rangers are being punished for their failings across several levels of the club over the summer, and it would be no surprise to see a key figure follow the manager out of the door in the near future.
