Americans lean on top choice already as Rangers set for new manager talks within days
Rangers’ owners have made progress in their attempts to find a new manager.
The 49ers Enterprises Group and Andrew Cavenagh are under major pressure to get the next appointment right, after the miserable spell under Russell Martin.
Rangers handed Martin his marching orders after just 17 matches in charge of the Ibrox club, with supporters turning against the ex-Southampton man in record time.
He leaves as statistically the worst Gers manager in history, with a win ratio of just 29 per cent from his time in charge.

Steven Gerrard set for Rangers talks this week
Steven Gerrard was believed to be open to a Rangers comeback, but there were complications that could get in the way.
However, Sky Sports’ Anthony Joseph claimed on 8 October that the Gers will hold talks with Gerrard this week on a potential Govan return.
He states that the American owners are leading the search, and they are particularly keen on reappointing Gerrard, who is their top choice.
Gerrard return would be perfect for Rangers
A return for the 45-year-old would be the perfect solution, he knows the club and what the fans demand in terms on performance and standards.
His leadership and ability to get the best out of his players could be exactly the boost that the playing squad at Auchenhowie needs.
- Gerrard is seventh on the all-time win percentage list for Rangers, with a rate of 64.8 per cent
- His side scored 407 goals and conceded 139 in his first tenure with the Gers
- He picked up 2.15 points per game with the Light Blues
Martin’s tenure was absolutely dismal, the team needs a lift, and Gerrard coming in would give them just that, as he is a brilliant motivator, as shown when his side won the Scottish Premiership title in the 2020-21 season.
Whether they can work out the potential complications with the former Liverpool man, remains to be seen, but it seems like he is in line to become the new man in the dugout.
It would be a huge boost for the fanbase, the squad, and the ownership’s relationship with the fans, if they could bring the Bears hero back to Govan for a second spell.
