What Sean Dyche has previously said about Rangers as likely Russell Martin successors named
Sean Dyche has emerged as one of the early contenders to take over from Russell Martin at Rangers.
The Gers have made a woeful start to the new campaign, and Andrew Cavenagh and Co. finally decided that enough was enough after Sunday’s 1-1 draw with Falkirk.
Martin was relieved of his duties at Rangers in the hours following the final whistle of the clash, and the search to find a successor for the 39-year-old is already well underway.
Dyche is one of several names to have already been tipped to take the reins at Ibrox, and with that in mind, Ibrox News looks back on some previous comments that he has made about the club.

Sean Dyche called Rangers a ‘massive club’ in 2016
Dyche is one of the early candidates to join Rangers and take charge of the team, with several people putting him forward as a likely option.
Among them was former Gers hero Kris Boyd, who revealed that he also thinks his former club should be looking at Steven Gerrard, Kevin Muscat and Hearts boss Derek McInnes as well as Dyche.
The former Burnley boss has been out of work since he was dismissed by Everton back in January, and his achievements during his previous role with the Clarets speak for themselves.
The 54-year-old oversaw two promotions to the Premier League during his time at Turf Moor, and also secured European football for the first time in 51 years when his team qualified for the Europa League in 2017/18.
Team | Games | W | D | L | Win % |
Everton | 83 | 26 | 24 | 33 | 31.3% |
Burnley | 425 | 152 | 114 | 159 | 35.8% |
Watford | 49 | 17 | 16 | 16 | 34.7% |
Dyche now finds himself in the frame to take the reins in Govan, and he has been full of praise for the Gers when he has previously spoken about them.
Joey Barton left his Burnley side to move to Ibrox back in 2016, and Dyche acknowledged Rangers’ pull in the process.

“It’s a massive club who are working hard to get back to where they belong, which is certainly around the top of Scottish football,” he said, in quotes relayed via FourFourTwo.
Rangers are in the same situation as when Sean Dyche made those comments
Martin has left Rangers in a total mess on the pitch, and they are arguably now in an identical situation as they were when Dyche made those comments back in 2016.
They are facing a monumental rebuild in order to close the gap between themselves and the top of the Premiership, and whoever steps into the dugout next won’t even have the immediate luxury of a transfer window to help them.
With that in mind, Dyche could be the best candidate. He had success in the past by building a siege mentality at Burnley, and a similar feeling could be invaluable at Rangers right now.
His past comments hit at the fact that the job would appeal to him, and if Rangers are genuinely interested, then there may be little standing in the way for either party.
