What Russell Martin has done at Rangers before sack is ‘truly stunning’
Rangers are on the hunt for a new manager, with their season already on the brink of failure.
Russell Martin was sacked by Rangers on Sunday, after a shambolic 17 matches in charge at Ibrox.
There had been high hopes for the former Southampton boss, but Rangers’ 1-1 draw with Falkirk marked the 12th match the Gers had failed to win across all competitions this season.
Danny Rohl and Sean Dyche are among the managers to be linked with the job, but a clear first-choice is yet to emerge from decision-makers at Ibrox.
Rangers fans undoubtedly want to see the return of Steven Gerrard, with the 45-year-old available after leaving Al-Ettifaq in January.

Russell Martin slammed after Rangers sack
Rangers fans were criticised for the scenes captured after the Falkirk game, with the team bus blocked whilst Martin needed a police escort to exit the stadium.
But much of the anger surrounding the Gers this season has been prompted by the decisions of Kevin Thelwell and the board.

Played | 17 |
Won | 5 |
Drew | 6 |
Lost | 6 |

Martin’s side had failed to win any of their opening three games in the Scottish Premiership and were thumped out of the Champions League qualifiers by Club Brugge weeks ago, when it was clear the appointment was not working.
Still, Rangers persisted with the former Southampton boss. It would take seven games after the humiliating 6-0 loss in Belgium, the Gers winning just one, before the right decision was finally taken.
Writing in The Sun on Tuesday, Martin Lipton slammed Martin for a “truly stunning” 123 days in charge.
“But really, to stand eighth in a two-club league is a truly stunning managerial misachievement,” the journalist wrote.
“So much for being the next big thing.”
Rangers must earn fans’ trust back
Over the last four months, Rangers have undoubtedly lost the trust of their fans.
Martin’s appointment, and the decision not to sack him earlier, have left fans questioning the direction of the Gers under their current leadership.
Their next decision, however, will be even more important – with the entire season on the chopping block if Rangers get it wrong for a second time.
