Rio Ferdinand responds to Rangers fan’s Steven Gerrard plea ahead of interview premiere
Rangers fans are desperate to see the return of Steven Gerrard at Ibrox in the coming weeks.
Russell Martin was sacked by Rangers on Sunday, just 123 days after the former Southampton boss was appointed.
The Gers had endured a shockingly bad start to the season, winning just five of their 17 fixtures under the Englishman.
Gerrard is not a fan of the current Rangers squad and would take some convincing to return, despite the former Aston Villa boss being currently without a job.
Kevin Muscat has also been touted as the potential next Rangers manager, among several other options under consideration at Ibrox.
Rio Ferdinand hints at Steven Gerrard return
Kevin Thelwell has reportedly met with Sean Dyche already, with the former Everton boss thought to be the other frontrunner for the job.
But Gerrard already captured the hearts of the Rangers fans in his first spell at the club, and would be an appointment to inspire confidence.
The Gers had been the former Liverpool midfielder’s first-ever managerial role when he was appointed in 2018, but he looked to be ready for the challenge immediately.

His first two seasons saw the Glasgow club finish second in the league, but it would be worth the wait.
The 2020-21 season saw Rangers go unbeaten in the Scottish Premiership, conceding just 13 goals across 38 games and finishing on a massive 102 points.
But when the Aston Villa job became available, Gerrard jumped at the chance to manage in the Premier League.
Now, the Ibrox favourite could be set to return, and an interview with Rio Ferdinand – scheduled to be released on Tuesday – could reveal Gerrard’s intentions.
Rangers fans have been commenting on the video, with one asking: “Any insight to if he would come back to Rangers?”
Ferdinand responded with an eyes emoji, and in another response, confirmed that the two would discuss “management and his return“.
Gerrard could change Rangers fortunes
There is no getting around it – Gerrard will not have the same tools at his disposal this time, if he does return to Rangers.
But given the Englishman’s prior achievements, he will walk in with an aura that instantly commands respect from his players.
Rangers are in desperate need of confidence and belief, and Gerrard could be exactly the man to bring that back.
