Jermain Defoe ready for Rangers return as new manager latest emerges after Russell Martin sack
Rangers fans could potentially soon be seeing Jermain Defoe in the dugout after Russell Martin was sacked.
The Scottish manager inspired anger among the Gers fans, and it was no surprise to see him lose his job after dropping more points against Falkirk in the William Hill Premiership on 5 October.
Andrew Cavenagh must now look for a replacement at Ibrox after undoubtedly regretting giving Kevin Thelwell and Gretar Steinsson the responsibility in the summer to bring a new head coach to the Light Blues.
While several candidates are being talked about and will be in the headlines during the international break, a familiar name may be on his way back to the Glaswegian outfit.

Rangers return a no-brainer for Jermain Defoe
Defoe seems eager to return to the Gers after Martin’s sacking, with the American owners seeking a new manager.
The former England international has had his eye on the Ibrox dugout since completing his coaching badges, and now feels like the right time for the ex-striker to be considered for a coaching role.
In the 2020-21 season, the 43-year-old was part of the Glaswegian outfit’s squad that won the league title after a 10-year wait, and he has the pedigree to be a part of a successful management team that could turn things around in G51.
Speaking on Sky Sports News on 7 October, Defoe said: “I’ve said it from day one, as soon as I retired and did all my coaching badges, and I said if I got an opportunity to come into this football club and help these players, of course, for me, it’s a no-brainer.”

Steven Gerrard is now a candidate at Ibrox, and the former centre-forward may be an option to be part of his coaching staff.
The ex-Tottenham star was part of a four-man caretaker team in G51 when the Liverpool icon left for Aston Villa midway through the 2021-22 campaign.
Jermain Defoe to follow Steven Gerrard to Ibrox
Gerrard is reportedly not a big fan of the current squad at Ibrox, and the Gers’ hierarchy may have to make promises to the Englishman to convince him of a return.
Michael Beale has been a big part of the Liverpool icon’s coaching setup wherever he’s been, but Rangers fans will fume to see the ex-QPR boss back in G51.

Defoe could potentially be an option for Gerrard as part of the new management team at the Glaswegian outfit.
Cavenagh and 49ers Enterprises have a few weeks to assess their options and hire the best man for the job.
