Ex-Premier League scout rips into Rangers players after what he’s noticed amid Danny Rohl talk

Danny Rohl could become the next man to step into the dugout at Rangers.

The former Sheffield Wednesday manager has been out of work since he left Hillsborough earlier in the summer, but that could be about to change given the fresh vacancy at Ibrox.

Rohl was heavily linked with Rangers a few months ago, but they ultimately opted for Russell Martin, with the German still in his old job at the time.

It could easily be a different story this time around, with the 36-year-old being linked with the job once again, and he would face a huge task ahead of him in Govan.

Rangers lack ‘quality players’ as experienced manager needed

Rohl is in the frame for the Rangers job once again, as he is being touted among the early candidates to pick up the mess that Martin’s reign has left.

The German is a promising young coach and has been widely commended for the job he did at Hillsborough, as he led the crisis-stricken club into the top half of the Championship table last term.

However, there can be no underestimating the fact that the Rangers job would provide a significant step up for him.

With that in mind, ex-Premier League scout Bryan King – speaking exclusively to Ibrox News – believes that Rohl is not the right man to take over, and has also slammed the quality of the Gers’ squad.

“No, to be honest (Rohl wouldn’t be a good option),” King said.

“I think Rangers would be going down the same road as the one they’ve just been down with Martin. He was also a manager who had great potential, and got praise for the jobs that he had done, but that isn’t enough.

“They need an experienced manager to come in there and sort it out. Rangers are one of the biggest clubs in Scotland, but they don’t look like a danger to win the Premiership at all.

“The club’s in turmoil, and I think it’s come from the top. The board doesn’t look right and there’s a lack of quality players.”

Danny Rohl would be another gamble appointment at Ibrox

It quickly became clear that Rangers’ board made a significant blunder by appointing Martin, who simply wasn’t equipped to handle the expectation that comes with managing such a huge football club.

However, by opting for Rohl as his successor, they would certainly be toeing the line in terms of the exact same issue.

The Wednesday job was his first as a manager in senior football, and while all the signs are positive, Martin’s tenure should have sent a warning as to the size of the jump in level from the Championship.

He had also enjoyed success in the English second tier, but was quickly proven to be way out of his depth when the pressure was on at Ibrox.

Rohl is an exciting young coach, and in the future, he could be perfect for a job like Rangers, but for now, it would simply be far too much of a gamble to turn to him.
