Andrew Cavenagh now ‘calling the shots’ in Rangers manager hunt after ridiculous latest

Rangers are desperately searching for a new manager following the sacking of Russell Martin.

Sitting eighth in the Scottish Premiership and winless in the Europa League, Rangers chiefs are doing all they can to maintain the respect of the furious Ibrox faithful.

Martin’s sacking was inevitable, with supporters absolutely livid with his appointment from day one.

Andrew Cavenagh has looked to mediate the heated situation by releasing a club statement alongside Paraag Marathe, admitting they got it wrong.

Andrew Cavenagh takes charge of the Rangers crisis

Cavenagh continuously backed Martin throughout the season, yet one win in seven league matches spelt the end of his disastrous reign on Sunday.

The Americans released a statement on Monday to address the discontent of Light Blues supporters, whilst also reiterating that they are fully committed to fixing the crisis at Rangers.

With Kevin Thelwell and Patrick Stewart heavily involved previously, it seems as though the top brass is taking more control this time around.

Speaking on the Daily Record Hotline Live on 6 October, journalist Keith Jackson explained why the statement was so important.

He said: “I think it’s quite smart, I think it might take a bit of heat out of the situation. They desperately need to win back the support of Rangers fans.

“What we saw after the Falkirk match was that the situation had reached a ridiculous level, and Cavenagh has grabbed the bull by the horns. He is calling the shots here.”

Rangers’ 1-1 draw to Falkirk was the final straw for Martin, with Cavenagh relieving him of his duties shortly after the match on Sunday.

Several candidates have been linked with the job, and Steven Gerrard has been touted for a spectacular Ibrox return.

Favourites to become Rangers manager;

McInnes has started the season brilliantly with league leaders Hearts, whilst former Gers defender Muscat could win a second consecutive Chinese Super League title.

Rohl and Gerrard remain unemployed, yet Dyche could be the man to take over in Govan.

Having worked with Thelwell at Everton, the pragmatic manager could offer the Bears some defensive stability that they’re desperately lacking.

Supporters are completely fed up with how this season has unfolded, and Cavenagh will need to work miracles to get them back onside.

Rangers fans right to not trust Andrew Cavenagh

In the statement, Cavenagh and Marathe claim that from now on, they will have a hands-on approach to proceedings at Rangers.

Not only does this highlight their lack of faith in Thelwell, but it also shows how important it is to get this managerial appointment right.

Supporters are completely justified in not placing faith in their chairman, with the delayed dismissal of Martin sparking further unrest after each game that Rangers failed to win.

Cavenagh can be forgiven for perhaps not understanding how bad a situation Rangers found themselves in by the end of September.

However, fans will completely revolt if the next manager doesn’t hit the ground running at G51.
