Richard Keys calls for immediate Rangers resignation after Russell Martin sack
Russell Martin was finally sacked by Rangers on Sunday in a move that surprised nobody.
The former Southampton boss was given his marching orders just 17 games and 123 days in charge of Rangers.
Rangers’ 1-1 draw with Falkirk proved to be the final straw, but Martin had been living on borrowed time long before that.
Martin was sacked by Rangers with the Glasgow side eighth in the Scottish Premiership with eight points from seven matches.
Steven Gerrard is the early frontrunner to succeed Martin at Ibrox, with the Gers having a little under two weeks before returning to action.

Kevin Thelwell comes under fire after Russell Martin sack
Richard Keys did not take long to react to Martin‘s sacking, calling for those high up at Rangers to also come under fire.
Now, in a post on his weekly blog, Keys has doubled down on that and named Kevin Thelwell as the one person in particular that should resign.
“Thank goodness Rangers finally pulled the plug on Russell Martin,” Keys wrote. “What a chancer he is.
“He eventually got totally exposed at Southampton, arrogantly trying to convince us he was right about everything and we were all wrong.
“So how on earth did Kevin Thelwell, Rangers sporting director, come to the conclusion Martin was the right man for a Goliath of a club like Rangers?
“He might as well have appointed Russell Grant. Thelwell should follow Martin out of the door.“

Thelwell was only appointed as Rangers’ sporting director in April, and did not officially start the role until the summer.
Thelwell’s Rangers tenure goes from bad to worse
Rangers’ transfer business seemed disjointed in the summer, with the big-money signing of Youssef Chermiti raising many an eyebrow.
Had Rangers made a fast start on the pitch, all that would have been forgotten about. But they haven’t, and therefore questions must be asked.
Martin was a terrible hire from the start, and the delay in sacking him has effectively cost Rangers any chance of making up for lost time.
Notable contenders for Rangers job:
- Steven Gerrard
- Sean Dyche
- Kevin Muscat
- Mark van Bommel
- Danny Rohl
A new manager will come on board soon, but that does not mean further changes are not required based on what we have seen over the past four months or so.
Thelwell looks a man out of his depth, with nothing positive to show for his time at the helm so far.
Hopefully Andrew Cavenagh sees sense so that he can turn this mess into something positive.
