Mark van Bommel interested in Rangers job as approach latest shared from Ibrox shortlist

Rangers are already looking for a new manager, after parting ways with Russell Martin.

Martin led Rangers to a dismal start to the season, winning just one of his first seven Scottish Premiership matches.

Rangers’ 1-1 draw with Falkirk proved too much for the Englishman, and he was handed his marching orders after 17 matches.

The 49ers Enterprises and Andrew Cavenagh, the Gers’ majority owners, need to get the next decision spot on, after the embarrassing Martin debacle.

Mark van Bommel interest shared as Rangers eye new manager

Mark van Bommel is a potential candidate for Rangers, and his stance on the role has been revealed.

Ben Jacobs reported on 6 October that Van Bommel, who has been out of work since leaving Royal Antwerp in 2024, would be interested in the Ibrox vacancy.

He states that the 48-year-old, who won the league title in Belgium, was one of the names approached when Martin was handed the reins.

The Ibrox outfit are understood to be putting their shortlist together.

Rangers should hire Van Bommel as Russell Martin successor

Van Bommel is exactly the type of manager that the Gers should be targeting to take over going forward.

The former Bayern Munich and Barcelona midfielder has proven his managerial ability in Belgium, and could attract top talent to the Govan club.

His managerial CV is an interesting one, and it could prove to be a masterclass if the Bears can appoint him as their Martin successor.

The new ownership needs a successful appointment to get their stint in the boardroom back on track, with fans severely disappointed that Martin was even appointed in the first place.

Hiring an exciting manager like Van Bommel, would help their case massively, in terms of getting supporters back on song.

Whether he can be the man to redeem the Gers’ season remains to be seen, but it would lift the spirits at Auchenhowie and bring renewed hope, when it is desperately needed.
