Kevin Thelwell and Dan Purdy to look over their shoulder as Rangers hero spotted vs Falkirk

Kevin Thelwell isn’t the most popular figure at Rangers after Russell Martin’s struggles this season.

The Gers’ sporting director undoubtedly must have played a key role in appointing the Scottish manager, but that decision has arguably backfired in G51 after a poor start to the campaign.

Thelwell has been confronted by the Ibrox faithful in recent weeks, with many calling for a change in the Light Blues’ management following the former Southampton boss’ continued failures.

Andrew Cavenagh should also assess Patrick Stewart’s position, and drastic calls may be on the horizon in G51.

David Weir in Sky Sports studio as Rangers face Falkirk

David Weir has been spotted watching the Gers take on Falkirk away from home in the William Hill Premiership on 5 October.

The former Brighton chief, along with James McFadden and Kris Boyd, are assessing the game at Falkirk Stadium from the Sky Sports studio.

With Weir seen as an icon at Ibrox after winning three league titles and captaining the Light Blues during his playing career, fans would undoubtedly want to see him work his magic in G51.

During the ex-Scottish defender’s spell as technical director at the Seagulls, the East Sussex outfit enjoyed impressive success, achieving their best finish in the Premier League in the 2022-23 season, finishing sixth.

Thelwell already knows how the Ibrox faithful feel about him, with the supporters calling for a change already within the hierarchy.

Dan Purdy is currently the technical director, having also joined from Everton in the summer, but the Glaswegian outfit have failed to live up to expectations under the new management.

Andrew Cavenagh may have given hint with Robbie Thelwell arrival

Robbie Thelwell’s imminent arrival at Ibrox from Norwich City may suggest Andrew Cavenagh has complete faith in the new sporting director and manager.

The American owners have been patient with Martin, and it wouldn’t be surprising to see them stick by him at Rangers for the long run, even if performances don’t improve drastically.

With the US consortium risking fan mutiny at the Gers, it remains to be seen how long they will wait before making a change in the dugout.

Weir is an experienced operator who thrived at Brighton, and the Glaswegian outfit would certainly be lucky to have him.
