Russell Martin should resign from Rangers after what he’s made fans wish for

Andrew Cavenagh and 49ers Enterprises are only delaying the inevitable as Russell Martin continues to fail at Rangers.

Sturm Graz beat Martin’s team at Merkur-Arena on 2 October, leading to further scrutiny on the Scottish manager in G51.

Protests have been held outside Ibrox against Martin, and the Gers’ faithful have had enough of the 39-year-old head coach’s failures this season.

Supporters have gone through a roller coaster of emotions during the former Southampton manager’s spell at the Glaswegian outfit, with apathy now dominating in G51.

Rangers fans want team to drop points to get Russell Martin sacked

Against Livingston, there must have been fans hoping the Gers didn’t score the last-minute winner just to see Martin get sacked, Gordon Dalziel says.

The former Raith Rovers forward believes supporters would be open to seeing the Light Blues drop points so that they can call for the Scottish manager’s dismissal at Ibrox.

With the Glaswegian outfit in such a sorry state, the ex-Saints boss must take responsibility for the growing sense of frustration in G51 and should resign.

Speaking on Open Goal on 2 October, Dalziel said: “I will guarantee you, there were Rangers fans sitting there hoping they didn’t score to say we can get him out.”

Russell Martin shouldn’t be in charge vs Falkirk

Martin is expected to remain in the dugout against Falkirk, which certainly won’t go down well with most of the supporters.

The Scottish manager appears to retain the faith of the Gers’ hierarchy, which is disappointing to see, given the consistently poor performances this season.

Martin’s record at the Gers

It feels baffling that Andrew Cavenagh and 49ers Enterprises haven’t already made a change in the Light Blues’ dugout.

Rangers shouldn’t persist with Martin after his abysmal record, but only time will tell how long the American owners will give him in G51.

The atmosphere around Ibrox has already gotten toxic, and Cavenagh may be playing with fire if he doesn’t take initiative and make changes at the Glaswegian outfit soon.
