Rangers to reunite Patrick Stewart with his friend as another concerning hire on the cards

Rangers fans are furious at the club hierarchy after a nightmare start to the season.

Optimism following a takeover has since turned to hostility, as Andrew Cavenagh and 49ers Enterprises are overseeing a disaster at Ibrox.

Russell Martin is clearly out of his depth as Rangers manager, while the directors above him are allowing the mess to get worse.

The Rangers board are facing criticism that they are putting unqualified people in high positions, with Kevin Thelwell hiring his son Robbie as a head of recruitment, and another concerning hire is now on the cards.

Patrick Stewart recruits old Manchester United colleague

Rangers fans have protested against Patrick Stewart, who moved to Ibrox less than a year ago from Manchester United.

Stewart has overseen one of the worst years in Rangers’ history as Chief Executive Officer, but rather than being removed from his role, he is now leading a revamp of the club hierarchy.

Chris Jack has now reported that Rangers are set to hire Jim Liggett as an interim Chief Operating Officer, on an interim basis until the end of the season.

Liggett worked with Stewart at Man United as a director of operations, and regardless of whether he is a suitable fit for the role, fans will have a lot of concerns over the optics of this appointment.

Rangers fans accuse club of ‘jobs for the boys’ mentality

With Thelwell signing Youssef Chermiti from old club Everton, and Rangers also making executive hires from the Premier League side, fans are suspicious of the club’s hierarchy.

There is a ‘jobs for the boys’ feel about the club right now, despite a previous belief that the new Rangers owners would seek to hire the best experienced candidates to run the club.

While most of the criticism is directed at Martin, Stewart and Thelwell, owners Cavenagh and Paraag Marathe are allowing the directors and manager to operate with seemingly complete freedom despite the woeful results so far.

Rangers were beaten by Sturm Graz in the Europa League to continue their nightmare run of form, but Martin does not appear to be under immediate pressure, and fans are now fed up of proceedings on and off the pitch.
