Rangers slammed as ‘irrelevant’ under Russell Martin amid sack latest
Russell Martin’s reign at Rangers has plunged further into despair following the 2-1 loss to Sturm Graz.
Rangers fans are furious at Martin, with Thursday’s defeat meaning he has won just five of his 16 games in charge of the Bears.
Fan protests at Ibrox have summed up the mood of Gers supporters who are sick of life under his stewardship.
Andrew Cavenagh seems reluctant to bite the bullet, yet there seems to be no other alternative for the Rangers chairman.

Russell Martin must be sacked as situation worsens at Govan
Sturm Graz’s two goals showcased the consistent defensive lapses that have occurred this season.
Martin’s possession-based brand of football has been impotent all season, with teams happy to sit back and hit the struggling Bears’ defence on the counter-attack.
Speaking on the Daily Record Hotline Live, journalist Keith Jackson was scathing in his assessment of the performance versus Sturm Graz.
He said: “No fight, no desire, no belief, no clue how to make it work, and no faith in what they’re being asked to do.
“Rangers under Martin are a nothing team; they do nothing, and they will win nothing.
“No wonder the fans have had enough, there is no point to their team anymore. They are painful to watch and becoming irrelevant.
“Time’s been up for Martin for weeks, and nothing has happened. I don’t know why they are sticking with this.”
Clearly, Cavenagh will continue to go forward with Martin and give him some more time to get the best out of his squad, much to the dismay of Light Blues fans.
Life under Martin has included a series of notable defeats that have left Rangers in complete turmoil.

Rangers have sacked plenty of managers in the past for spells of form, yet they had always led Rangers to some form of achievements; whether that be runs in Europe, domestic trophies, or simply competing with arch-rivals Celtic.
At the moment, none of that will ever happen whilst Martin is in Govan.
Martin must regroup his players and go again against Falkirk on Sunday, and a defeat to the side placed 11th in the league would be the worst one of the lot.
Russell Martin can’t afford to slip-up vs Falkirk
It’s been said multiple times this season that Martin must win his next match to avoid being sacked, yet no change is being made after every poor result.
However, Rangers fans should have some optimism if their side were to lose to Falkirk.
It’s widely known that many teams change their managers during the international break to allow time for the next man to walk through the door and prepare for the tough schedule ahead.
Rangers’ next three matches:
- Falkirk (a): 5 October
- Dundee United (h): 18 October
- Brann (a): 23 October
The international break would be the most likely time for Cavenagh to act, leaving Bears supporters with a glimmer of hope for the future.
