Kevin Thelwell must listen to Rangers fans as footage emerges of confrontation

Kevin Thelwell is coming under increasing pressure after Rangers’ woeful start under his guidance.

Thelwell joined Rangers as sporting director after leaving Everton in the summer, and he played a huge part in the appointment of Russell Martin.

Martin is well out of his depth as Rangers manager, and Thelwell also made some questionable signings, such as Youssef Chermiti.

Rangers were beaten by Sturm Graz in the Europa League, and following the game in Austria, Thelwell was confronted by some angry supporters.

Kevin Thelwell and Patrick Stewart confronted by Rangers fans

Thelwell and Patrick Stewart were both in attendance to watch Martin’s side lose in embarrassing fashion to Sturm Graz, and the pair were confronted after the match.

Angry fans confronted both in a hotel lobby, and clips circulating online show Thelwell attempting to talk one down, while Stewart responds with sheer arrogance.

One fan fumed at Thelwell, claiming that he “spends thousands every week” to watch “garbage,” while Stewart responded “who would you get?” When a fan told him to hire a new manager.

The confrontation comes after protests were launched against Stewart and Martin in recent weeks, with fan anger at Ibrox at an all-time high.

Thelwell must listen to Rangers fans

The confrontation saw the two fans express what every Rangers supporter is feeling, directly to the faces of those enabling this crisis.

Thelwell has also faced criticism for hiring his son as the new head of recruitment, but he and Stewart have a chance to restore their reputations.

Martin is at the point of no return, but if Thelwell and Stewart were to sack him now, they could save an ounce of credibility over a decision which should have been made weeks ago.

Rangers fans will only become angrier or even apathetic if Martin stays, and Thelwell must heed the advice of the supporters who confronted him and stop the rot now.
