Andrew Cavenagh has seen nothing yet as Rangers fans to rebel against Russell Martin

Rangers fans should feel aggrieved by what’s happening at the club right now.

Russell Martin is facing the sack, as yet another season has started disastrously at Ibrox.

Andrew Cavenagh is starting to face criticism for his continued backing of Martin, with fans angry over the current state of the club.

Rangers’ abysmal start to the campaign has left fans reeling once again, as morale in Govan reaches devastating lows.

Rangers fans right to feel frustrated with Andrew Cavenagh

Martin has now led the Bears to five wins from 16 matches, and the Bears are yet to win on foreign soil this season following the 2-1 loss to Sturm Graz on Thursday.

Seven points from six Scottish Premiership games doesn’t make great reading for even the staunchest Martin defenders, as the majority of fans have united to rally against the former Southampton manager.

Speaking on the Daily Record Hotline Live on 2 October, journalist Keith Jackson shared his thoughts on what the fans deserve from the Rangers board.

He said: “I’ve got immense sympathy for these Rangers fans right now.

“There was a while when Rangers supporters became entitled as they were winning a lot of trophies.

“After everything they’ve been through over the last decade, they 100 per cent do deserve better.

“They’ve been taken for granted, taken for fools, and of course, they’re going to rebel against that.”

The trials and tribulations that Bears fans have had to go through since 2010 have not been easy, as the Light Blues were placed in the fourth division of Scotland in 2012-2013 after entering administration and then liquidation.

Since climbing back up in the Scottish pyramid, Rangers have won multiple trophies since their return to the top flight.

Whilst nothing can replicate that feeling of administration, the current climate of Rangers is beginning to become just as toxic.

The appointment of Robbie Thelwell is another knife in the back of Rangers’ fans, with Cavenagh doubling down in his support of Kevin Thelwell.

Rangers had a net spend of £20m in the summer transfer window, yet hardly any of the players have adapted to life at Ibrox, with Martin’s philosophy not getting the best out of the players he bought.

As they should, supporters will continue to be vocal about the change that they want, and that may influence Cavenagh’s decisions in the future.

Continued protests will have an effect on Andrew Cavenagh’s decision

The supporters have already made their voices heard, with the protests against Martin during the Hibernian and Genk matches at Ibrox speaking volumes about what they think of their manager so early in the season.

Rangers fans are some of the passionate in the United Kingdom, and they’ll keep making their opinions known to the board for as long as Martin is still in charge.

It’s not just Martin who they’re taking aim at, with Kevin Thelwell and Patrick Stewart facing abuse, whilst Cavenagh will need to prepare for what might come his way in the near-future.

Whilst abuse and criticism must not be conducted in a directly malicious way, it’s hard not to feel sympathy for a fanbase that has been through so much.
