Rangers sign off on new staff promotion as Kevin Thelwell backlash overshadows triple move

Kevin Thelwell is being accused of nepotism as Rangers are set to appoint his son, Robbie Thelwell, as head of recruitment.

The Gers’ sporting director isn’t the most popular figure in G51, and the shake-up in the backroom staff has raised eyebrows among the supporters.

Robbie’s potential arrival at Ibrox has led to backlash from many, as his short tenure so far hasn’t really been a success at the Light Blues.

Many fans have urged Andrew Cavenagh to sack Russell Martin, but it appears that the Glaswegian outfit’s current hierarchy have faith in their current model and trust the decision-makers after signing off on the new appointments.

David McGregor promoted at Rangers

Everton’s head of emerging talent, Nathan Fisher, is being tipped to move to the Gers, according to the Scottish Daily Mail.

The news outlet reports in its print edition on 2 October that the Merseyside outfit’s chief is poised to be the new head scout at Ibrox.

It’s been claimed that David McGregor is also being promoted to become the men’s head kit manager, and Jamie Ramsen, head of academy sports science, will assume the role of head of performance.

Jaymes Monte will also join as data insights lead as Cavenagh and 49ers Enterprises look to put a team in place to support the current team.

Robbie Thelwell coming in to fail at Ibrox

Kevin’s sacking is being demanded at Ibrox, with fans starting to turn on members in the Gers’ boardroom after Martin’s continuing failures.

The Scottish manager hasn’t been able to convince fans that he’s the right person to lead the Light Blues to success after a poor start to the season.

Despite the last-minute win over Livingston on 28 September, the opinion around the former Southampton manager and other members of the hierarchy hasn’t changed.

Martin and Kevin are both on thin ice at Rangers, and the shake-up in the backroom staff right now feels untimely due to their reputations.

It wouldn’t be surprising to see Cavenagh and the 49ers change the manager and sporting director in the coming months, possibly leaving Robbie in a tough spot.

How the situation in G51 unfolds remains to be seen as supporters continue to express their frustration.
